Two guards stepped aside, opening the door for me as I approached my office. I walked in, ready to meet the one who claimed to be the Lycan Queen. As I entered my office, I could smell the faint fragrance of roses. The scent was overwhelming, filling the room with its sweet aroma. I glanced around, searching for the source of the intoxicating scent. My eyes landed on a beautiful figure staring out the window at the moonlit night sky. Her black hair cascaded down her back, shimmering like the dark night itself. She turned to face me, her eyes filled with a mix of determination and courage.

I kept my face in a cool mask of indifference as she continued, the spear that was still in my shoulder burning hotly. “Have you forgotten so soon Beast? What got you here in the first place? You are a copy of your father! A brutish beast who can never love any-” Ma Jules spewed before I wrenched her head back, snapping it messily from her neck just as I felt her spine break under my foot and the body crumple to the gritty floor. I sighed heavily, howling a guttural dirge of exhausted victory as the full moon’s energy caressed the fur of my Alpha.

But there wasn’t time to stop, no time to breathe, because that’s when I saw it. A wolf. It barrelled through the undergrowth behind her, larger than I expected, its fur bristling like iron spikes, jaws open, saliva glinting in the faint moonlight. Its growl tore through the forest like thunder, primal and merciless. “Elena, run!” I shouted, sprinting forward, every muscle burning with the need to reach her. She pushed harder, legs shaking, breath broken. I could see the way she tripped, her foot catching on an exposed root. She pitched forward, arms flailing as she lost her balance—

Raven and I settled into our favorite corner table in the dining hall as we loaded our plates with fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and steaming eggs, the savory scents mingling with the sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee. As we ate, Raven filled me in on the latest pack gossip, her voice barely above a whisper. "Lysander was seen with a mysterious female wolf from the shadow pack," she revealed. I raised an eyebrow, my curiosity rising. "Interesting. Do we know anything about her?" I asked. Raven leaned in. "Rumor has it she's a skilled huntress. Lysander's smitten," she whispered. I chuckled, imagining Lysander's typically stoic behavior softening. "Good for him," I said.

I corrected him, and he laughed. "From today until my last breath for me, you are my Queen," he said, looking at me and promising me with his eyes. "But you will always be my Beast," I promised.

She was the only one who saw me. She pulled a blade of grass from the ground, twirling it between her fingers for a while without saying anything. "Are you scared?" she asked, gently nudging my shoulder. I pursed my lips and nodded. “That’s understandable,” she whispered. “I’d be terrified too.” She offered a small, sad smile. "My grandmother says most of the stories about the Lycan King are exaggerated. She says powerful men make people nervous, and nervous people turn rumors into legends."

"Come and fight me!" Swish! "Who?!" Linda's face changed dramatically as Lord Fifth finished speaking, and she was unexpectedly beheaded! The sudden change shocked the nine-tailed fox, losing a transformed human body. In her rage and surprise, she looked over and saw an old woman holding a black dagger, carrying Linda's head. The old woman looked at Chad, smiling, "Dr. Jennings, sorry I'm late!" At the last moment, Willow suddenly made hand seals and shouted, "I invite Lord Second to possess me!"

The dining hall is similar to the one that was in the painting I threatened to torch, only slightly less wide. It is a long room with a very high ceiling and no pillars. The lighting in the room comes from numerous lamps that burn so bright everything in the large room is visible to you no matter where you are standing in it. Its high walls are adorned by paintings of all kinds similar in style and feel to the aforementioned one but of vastly different subject matters. There’s one of a war ship and another of a garrison. There is a large portrait of a pale woman staring judgingly at me and another of a really cute baby right next to it. Then there’s the paintings of beasts, some I recognize,

The ache shot through her body. They wore her a fresh piece of silk; it clung to her hips, her breasts, and her shoulders — not a single male hand touched it. “The Beast doesn’t like his food spoiled,” one of the Woundmaidens muttered under her breath. The others said nothing—they weren’t meant to speak. Another young girl approached, her face gaunt as she carried a small bone comb and a pot of kohl. Without meeting Kaerith’s eyes, she began to work the comb on her hair with steam and water.

I think he is right. It's always there, breathing down my neck.. the dark traces of my personality wrapping its arms around me, telling me to let go. I can see the beast everytime I look into a mirror. Its silver eyes, my eyes, flash back at me as if to remind me who's in control. I can't control the beast anymore.
