Though I know he had taken three Luna before me, still it hurts. I felt betrayed that he didn’t wait for me. But it was not the time to feel sad. I wanted to know why he brought me here. There was a big portrait of the Lady, the same as Rose’s, but her room has simplicity. Everything has been taken care of and maybe he wasn’t as bad as I was thinking. And I was feeling sad, thinking he may be caring for them. Who would have saved someone’s memory so carefully if they weren’t emotionally attached?

What a foolish man, thinking he can chase clout by inviting every single investor currently in New York. Although not everyone was present, that doesn't change the fact that I, of all people, was here. I snap out of my thoughts the moment my eyes make contact with a blue, piercing gaze. Isn't that the lady from earlier, the one who broke the engagement just now? Now she is sitting here, drunk? Interesting. I waved at the hostess, signaling that I would be fine and needed to be left alone. I walked closer, her vacant stare finally registering my presence. She glared in annoyance, saying nothing.

"Last month, when I had a 102℉ fever, where were you? You were helping Lily move. Marcus, you never once asked if I needed you." "That's because you..." He couldn't finish. "Because I what? Because I'm too independent? Too strong?" I stood up. "While Lily..." I looked at the woman, who was still crying. "She's exactly the type you like. Someone who needs you, depends on you, and makes you feel important." "Claire, you..." Lily's expression changed. "What are you trying to say? Are you implying something about me?" "No, Ms. Bardot. I'm simply stating facts. You said you didn't know last night was our engagement party?"

But she was an engaged woman now and her life was changing, and there was no time like the present to do things she’d never done before—because she never would again. She certainly wasn’t running from anything, she assured herself as she made it through customs and immigration and officially entered Olkfield for the first time. Everyone deserved a little time to themselves before getting married. An engagement ought to come with a bit of reflection and preparation, surely, before standing up before all and sundry and making vows to become legally bound forever. But thinking about her own impending marriage was depressing, so she busied herself with finding and hiring a cab when she wasn’t su

In the dress I wore for the wedding, the only difference is that it looked newer and more fitting for the lookalike lady in the picture. I felt a chill run through me, my mind already realized what was going on but my heart was reluctant. This lady….. I turned around, realizing there were other pictures, diagrams, and everything was of her. And there I saw her, with the lingerie I was given, she held a red rose in her hand, smiling like the most innocent lovely girl. A sigh left me. This isn't me.

Confusion flooded me instantly. “Engagement?” The woman nodded happily. “Yes, Miss Lilith. Your marriage arrangement with Mr. Adrian Knight is tomorrow.”

I didn’t have to wait long to find out why, though. Lady Karissa stood beside Ambrose with a bright smile. “Good evening, everyone. I’m Lady Karissa, Prince Ambrose’s betrothed.” Ambrose stood up immediately. “Karissa, stop lying to these people. We are not engaged. As I recall, there has never been a proposal, and there isn’t likely to be one either,” he growled.

Porcelain teacup from the east of the empire shattered into fragments as a soft, sweet voice that was peculiarly shrill at the moment echoed in the garden. "What did you say?" "M-Miss...Lady Layla has been asked to get engaged to Duke Valentine by the orders of the Duke." After that, the tea party that was going on with ladies from several noble houses did not truly matter as the woman got up from her seat with graceful movements, gentle eyes expressing her apologies as she excused herself. Lady Marianna despite being a sickly person controlled the aristocracy through iron reins of her will and had the high society within the palm of her hands.

And her guess confusion came to find its enlightenment when suddenly a very familiar figure of a man appeared in front, right after the play ended and the curtains were down. Even from her distance, she could see it was Lord Dynirho of Verindale. And she couldn’t be more surprised when he started by calling her attention. “Lady Francesca Chandler, may I have the honor to have you join me in the stage?” he asked loudly while locking his eyes with hers. Everyone looked at her and started making their own opinions and speculations. It was only about few days ago when her engagement broke off because of an indecent scandal with another man. Now, she was reinforcing the spotlight over her again y
