“I couldn’t be happier with you, Klaus. Look at your woman. If it weren’t for her, I’d still be trapped in that cursed magic, unable to leave the wolf den, unable to find my enemies.”
Lyle leaped off the bed, his thick tail brushing across the king’s face, leaving deep scratches on his old, frail skin.
Suddenly, the king’s withered eyes snapped open, dull and clouded.
“Cold! I’m so cold!” The king’s raspy voice echoed as he pushed aside the heavy blankets with his skeletal hands. He didn’t seem to notice anyone else in the room. Sniffing the air, he leaned over the dead maid’s neck, growling in dissatisfaction.
