Adam wouldn’t let me live that one down. We walked closer. Even with the translucent leaves above us, you could see the patter of rain. How they kept the grass green with no direct sunlight and having the heat of the fire escape around them was beyond my understanding. It was as if they were bees inside of a hive the way they were protected from the outside elements with the help of their trees.

Sunlight filtered through the dense foliage, casting ethereal patterns on the forest floor. Alpha Leori, his eyes filled with a mix of wonder and determination, spoke up. "This forest holds the key to our next revelation. Let us tread carefully and listen to the voices that echo through its ancient groves." Robin, his senses heightened by the surroundings, pointed to a trail of shimmering light that led deeper into the woods. "Look, Alpha! Do you see that? It's as if the very essence of knowledge guides our way," he exclaimed, his voice filled with awe.

Every time the wind touches the leaves, my pulse skips.

The ambient glow, which had hovered like held breath, descended and spun, weaving itself through their hair, along their wrists, across their joined fingers. The moss shifted from velvet to something like muscle—firm, supportive, carrying their weight back to them rather than absorbing it. The oaks’ leaves turned their faces, not to the moon alone but to the point where the three of them met, as if light were a noun that could be plural and was.

Lewana POV We get word that the Psirens are in place and start to move towards the target area. I notice that as we get closer, the stars start to disappear. As I look at the moon above the canopy of trees, it also looks like it is dimming. The shadows. This is why we couldn't sense or get a view of the area. They have permeated everything. They have literally sucks the life out of everything in the area. I start to feel the fear creeping into my soul, like the shadows that are casting darkness over me are seeping into my very skin and contaminating me.
