It had been years, but nothing had really changed. I pushed open the door to Lightning’s office and stepped inside. The room was just as I remembered: dark, cluttered, and filled with the scent of leather and tobacco. Lightning followed me in, closing the door behind him. He leaned against the desk, crossing his arms over his chest, and eyed me warily. “Alright, Lily,” he said. “Start talking. What kind of trouble are you in?”

Damian's wolf was a massive, iron-gray beast with a thick, imposing build that could crush opponents with brute force. Rowan Seres Velden of the Stormrider Pack had a striking presence, with stormy blue eyes that seemed to constantly crackle with energy. Before either of them could say another word, the earth exploded. A pillar of black mist erupted from the abyss, climbing higher and higher until it pierced the clouds themselves. I snapped in my mind. 'Really?' my wolf asked. 'Then why do I feel him as our mate like I have never felt towards Iris'?' I wanted to stamp my foot in frustrated anger but remembered that Iris was still beside me and might either misinterpret the action or get curious and I didn't want her to think I was a freak. So, I made do with biting my inner cheek till I tasted blood and went further to scream my denial to my wolf in my mind. 'He is not my mate. Lyndon isn't my mate!' I repeated.

Heat curled along my body— —but didn’t burn. The figure whispered: “Spirit… unbroken.” Then the third. The storm figure lifted both hands. The wind howled. Thunder cracked. Lightning spiraled toward me like a spear. I couldn’t let this one hit. I pushed outward with my magic— felt the hum of power rise inside me— felt my wolf guiding it— And I released it in a burst of silver-gold light. The lightning shattered. The cavern went dead quiet. Then— All three forms knelt.

The werewolf came, its feet hitting the ground mercilessly as its hands joined in its movement. It broke out from the woods, tearing off the leaves of the trees with less effort, and growling at the sight of the man. “You can't take anyone from my family.!” Mark grinned as he shifted under the bright moonlight. His bones cracked, and his skin stretched beyond its limits, tearing to become as tough as that of a wolf. He growled at the phantom, just as the phantom growled at him. Like two behemoths, they collided, and the green grasses on the ground fell victim to their battle.
