It was a bright afternoon when Darla pulled up outside Anya’s school. She adjusted her sunglasses and leaned back in her seat, scanning the area as children streamed out of the building. Her sharp eyes never missed a thing. Anya skipped toward the car, clutching her backpack. A wide smile lit up her face as she waved to her bodyguard. “Darla! Look, I got a gold star today!” Darla grinned, opening the car door for her. “That’s great, Anya. You’re making me proud. Hop in.”

Natalie says while walking away. We enter the living room to tell everyone the food is ready just as the front door opens. Dylan and Hailey smile as they walk into the cozy space. Mrs. Natalie and Grammy squeal as they run towards Hailey. Dylan grabs a envelope from Hailey's hand before his mother can grab it, and he holds it above his head. "Nope, I have waited for over a week. You two are waiting until after dinner," Dylan declares loudly, and his mother and grandmother whine like children.

Darla was shaking in humiliation. So many things in the last two days, from one girl. She knew no better than to take revenge on Cassandra. Strutting from the principal's office, she sees Ravine talking with her step brother. She waves at her, picking up her pace. Her goons have left the campus already, timely leaving at 2 pm as if their mothers will whoop their asses if they were not home by then. But in reality, all they wished was to get away from Darla's clutches, even if they knew they would come back in her den the next day again.

Darla steps in close, her other hand coming up to press against Alcina’s upper back where she feels the faintest edge of sharpened claws, resting against her. Alcina stutters. “Finish that sentence, little duckling,” Darla croons, an absolutely terrifying menace at only 5’8”, a horrifyingly beatific smile on her features. “And I might just trim a few inches off your height.” Alcina nods vehemently.

“You actually brought Rosefall?! I’ve always wanted to try this. Thank you!” As Della hurried off to show her father the bottle of Rosefall, I let my eyes sweep the room. No Jason lurking around, trying to win me back. No Nolan standing around looking indifferent. Just music, laughter, and my best friend enjoying her night. Good. Someone shouted over the music. “Come dance, Beta Della!” “In a second!” Della answered after giving her father the Rosefall for safe keeping. “Cake first. We have all night to dance.” Della clapped her hands to get everyone’s attention and the volume of the music lowered. “Alright, everyone, over here! Cake time!”

" I slowed near an intersection where a small plaza stood, and Darla gathered her files. "I'll call you tonight," she said, opening the door. “Make sure you rest,” I said. She gave me a look that said I won’t, but nodded nonetheless. “Goodnight, you two.” “Goodnight,” Alexa said warmly. Darla stepped out, closed the door, waved, and disappeared into the crowd. The car seemed strangely quiet without her. Alexa shifted in her seat. "Okay," she said. "She's gone. Now talk. What's this big plan?"
