Her eyes opened and met mine. "I love you," I said. Her eyes filled with tears. "I don't want to let you go." I kissed her deep, my tongue in her mouth, my body moving with hers. She was close and I could feel it in the way she tightened around me, the way her breath hitched. "Let go, pretty," I whispered. "I've got you." She broke, her body shaking and trembling as she cried out my name over and over, tears streaming down her face. I held her through it, kept moving slower now, gentler, letting her ride it out.

I had watched him sacrifice, inch by inch, piece by piece, and I had said nothing. “I get it,” she said, softer now. “You love him. God knows he loves you. And you’re good for him.
