Luna held his gaze for a long moment, something warm and frightening and entirely new unfurling in her chest despite everything, despite the grief, despite the terror, despite a night that had taken nearly everything she thought she understood about her own life and burned it down to nothing.
Then she turned back to the ancient, patient fire watching her from the broken earth, and drew in one long, steadying breath.
