All I could think about was the way he’d looked at me—as if I was nothing, as if I’d already failed him in every way imaginable.
“I was trying to—” I tried again, my voice hoarse, but he cut me off with a glare so cold it froze the words in my throat.
“Trying?” he spat. “You were trying? Trying isn’t enough, Magnar. Trying doesn’t build a legacy. Trying doesn’t make you Alpha. Results do. Success does. And right now, all I see is failure!”
