I glanced at it—his title read Independent Consultant. "And what brings you here, Peter?" I asked. He wrung his hands, voice low. "To be honest, I'd like to apply for a consultant position at your company. I've been in the industry for thirty years and have extensive connections…"

As we left, I glanced back. Erebus stood in the halo of sunlight, humming again. Nyla once more was trying to eat her barrel of honey, ignoring the mess she made. The picture they made of domestic peace was beautiful, yet my mind struggled to believe that this was real. A magical realm where the Master was a horned god… How was any of this real?

My breath caught in my throat, and I staggered back, my heart racing with fear. The Puppet Master materialized before me, its form shifting and twisting, a maelstrom of shadows and smoke. Its eyes burned with a dark, malevolent energy, and its voice was like ice in my veins. “You think you can stop me?” it hissed, its words echoing in my mind. “You think your sacrifice will save them?” I clenched the artifact tighter, trying to summon the strength to push back, but the Puppet Master’s power was overwhelming, suffocating. I could feel it pressing down on me, crushing my spirit, my will.

It was a strange thought because the master was a vampire, and should not be capable of showing such feelings. “Let’s sit. You need to regain some control of your emotions,” he said calmly. She allowed him to lead her to a chair, opposite his. Her eyes touched the whole chair to be sure that the master hadn't woven magic over it. When she didn’t see any visible signs like parrots dancing wildly, she sat down carefully. A slight look towards the master, showed he was already seated , and buried in his book. She watched as his red eyes served as a touch to illuminate the words. Even from a distance, she could make out the words, though she didn’t understand what it meant.

And I remember it told me that it couldn't let its human part use the bond of fate to manipulate me. "I thought I was a master in the art of torture..." I heard Hoff's voice. "But I don't even come close to your mind, my King." "It was easy... A touch here, a gentle word there..." I knew this would irk him, and a flicker of confusion replaced his anger, transforming his expression into an unexpected twist.
