Just as the walls were about to close in completely, they made it out, tumbling into another corridor, panting and out of breath. They didn’t stop to catch their breath for long, though. The realization was slowly dawning on them all. “The maze is alive,” Maya whispered, her voice barely audible. “It’s shifting, changing. That’s why no one has ever escaped. It’s designed to trap us.” Nathan swallowed, his face pale. “How do we escape something like that?” Tanaka looked grim as he wiped the sweat from his brow. “We don’t know. But we keep moving forward. The map still shows us the center, and we stick to the plan.”

AVERY'S POV: I bolted from the thicket, leaving the gruesome scene behind me. My pulse thundered in my ears as my bare feet slapped against the damp, cold earth. The maze loomed, suffocating in its enormity, its hedges closing in like walls of an unending prison. I didn’t care about getting lost anymore—I just needed to keep moving. I didn’t think about Axel, bloodied and monstrous, or the guards, or even the possibility of being caught. Survival had taken over, and every breath burned as I pushed my body past exhaustion.

CHAPTER 49 LYRA The black maze loomed ahead of us, Darius led the way, his voice stern as he addressed us. “This is the Maze of Illusions,” Darius said, his eyes scanning each of us. “It’s far worse than what you’ve faced before. You’ll be confronted with your worst fears. Stay too long in the illusion, and you won’t be able to tell it from reality. And if you lose yourself… you die.” A heavy silence fell over the group. My heart thudded painfully in my chest. I glanced at Esmeralda, who looked pale. We were splitting up, each of us forced to face the maze alone.

She didn't say anything else after that. Joyce curled up in my arms as Mom and I grabbed our guns and headed to the second floor to shoot the unwelcome visitors down. Meanwhile, Emmett guarded the door on the first floor. The gate fell open with a loud crash, and chaotic footsteps stormed into the yard. It didn't take long for someone to step on the nails scattered all over the place. They howled in pain. The noise attracted the roaming zombies, who flooded in and surrounded the group. Several seconds later, all that was left was the sound of the zombies groaning and blood on the ground.

He had to find a way through this maze, to find Qing Lin and his mother, to get them out before Kang Jin did something terrible. He waited until the voices faded away, until the footsteps had moved on. Then, he continued on his way, moving deeper into the maze. The containers were stacked high, some two or three stories tall, creating narrow alleys and dead ends. It was easy to get lost, easy to feel trapped. But Liam kept going, his mind focused on one thing—saving the people he loved.

"What? Why are we wasting time? Guys?" Rashid heaved as he tapped his forefinger on the opened history book at a certain paragraph. It spoke about how the dungeons beneath the king's mansion were huge and divided into different rooms. Each passage led to a different room; and each room was further divided into several rooms. It was kind of like a maze. A wrong passage would take them to the wrong room and they might end up getting stuck in a room that's far away from where Hunter and Claire were held hostage. "Are we going to unwind the other passages then?" Levi's query was answered with a small nod of head. "Okay, let's do it quickly."

A formation lit up on the ground as he then exploded from the complexity of the Manual and his Soul not even remotely close to deal with the weight of the manual lashed out in every possible way. There was a reason elders and parents prepared for legacies before allowing offspring to take them. Or to pass over to them. A big appetite can get you killed. With Ren delivering the Manual the same way he received, all at once, the Emperor was lucky his soul and mind weren't crushed by the wandering Ion forces that gathered the moment on contact.

"Don't make me punch you. Again." He walked away. Which was good, because had he stayed any longer, he'd have seen the sweat pooling around my temples, the tremors that wracked my body, and the twitching hand. With a curse, I stomped back into the pantry, grabbed an entire bag of marshmallows, and dug in. END OF BOOK ONE: CAPTURE

If my intuition was correct, then what reason could Liene have? She looked me in the eye so I frowned, waiting for her answer. She sighed and spoke, “he is my brother, Maze. He came here to try again so he can join the group he’s idolizing. If he wins this battle, he will have the chance to get out of the Normous and travel around the world . . .” He took a deep breath and looked at his brother. “. . . He always lost and he was completely hurt because of that but even though he fell over and over again, he kept fighting. I don't know why he desires to be part of that group. I pity my brother, Maze.” I sighed. "What group is that, Liene?"
