The Midnight Library Summary Novels & Stories

Nobody slept. Again. The rooftop family had a long history of treating major revelations as reasons to abandon healthy schedules. Elowen's library did not help. At approximately two in the morning, the entire group stood inside an impossible library that technically shouldn't exist. Rows of shelves stretched beyond sight. Floating lanterns drifted lazily overhead. Books filled every corner. Thousands. Millions. Possibly more. The creator had stopped blinking. Hope had stopped pretending she wasn't excited. The rest of us were simply overwhelmed.

I walk into the dorm and go upstairs to rest and prepare myself for the crazy night ahead of me. Many hours later when night has fallen, I find myself in the library archives. I arrived about an hour ago to watch the night shift librarian close up for the evening. I’ve always been a night owl with a considerable rebellious streak, so I’ve already spent a few nights staking out the library’s security measures to find the best way to sneak in after hours. The librarian didn’t suspect a thing. It’s eerie down here alone in the archives. It’s a large, dimly lit room with walls, cabinets, and displays of old records. Dusty old books line the walls. A brassy light fixture hangs in the middle of th

"Lies." I KNOW IT'S A LIE, OKAY?!!! CAN YOU LEAVE ME SOME FACE PLEASE? THANK YOU. Midnight walked to the bed and sat on it, taking the laptop on his lap to see what his cute Ry was trying to do this time. However, as the blinding titles of the books on the screen burned his eyes, Midnight froze, not knowing how to react. What is this? What happened to the fantasy books she used to read? Is this a new hobby?

"Come along. Some interesting stories are waiting to be told." Jay got up on his feet and followed the Author out of the room. As he expected, everything was made of words, even the servants in the Palace. It seemed the Author was the only celestial being that wasn't made up of words. Jay followed the Author walking on the long hallway until they reached the door at the end of the hallway. The Author opened the door, revealing a gigantic library with unknown numbers of brown-leathered books on the shelves. The library size seemed to be endless as it stretched further down Jay's sight. Hundred of servants working the library. Some of them arranged the books, carried some books from shelf to s

The storm came just after midnight. Rain tapped steadily against the windows, and the wind moaned across the cliffs in long, mournful sighs. Sloane stood in the library, barefoot on the cool wooden floor, a glass of red wine warming in her palm. The room was enormous, filled with rows of aged books stretching floor to ceiling, an iron chandelier flickering above, and velvet curtains drawn partially open to let in the wild sea light. She hadn’t meant to find this place. Her restlessness had carried her from corridor to corridor, past locked doors and antique mirrors that reflected her only dimly, as if unsure who she was. But the library door had been ajar, waiting for her.

“It's late.” It's way past midnight but I'm pretty sure I won't get any quality sleep if I decide to do nothing. “I'm sure,” I replied with confidence. Without even changing my gala dress, I tiptoed around the hallway, thanking the heavens that most servants were asleep. It was as though the world was on my side because the library wasn't locked, only the small creaking sound of the door threatened to give me away. Using my torchlight, I scanned several shelves for book titles that'll hint about prophecies or true mate.

— The Gentleman in Black Lena rolled out of the bed, breathless, panting. She couldn't count how many times she'd had that nightmare. All over and over again, a recurring memory stalking her in her sleep like it was trying to show her something, tell her something. Lena wasn't interested in that. Especially when what she really wanted was to forget all about that day. It ruined everything for her. And so it felt cruel of the world to let her relive it every night.

The Librarians shrieked, their withered hands reaching for the knowledge being stolen from their charge. They plunged back through the collapsing, chaotic breach in time, the sound of the Archive’s ancient scream snapping shut behind them, leaving them breathless and exposed in the cold, silent stone of their own castle. They had escaped the Library That Shouldn't Exist, but they carried its devastating secrets - and the terrifying truth of their enemy's ultimate target - back into their world.

Lyra Helena and I spend three days sorting out the boxes filled with books and as we stand there proud of our handy work, I feel a sense of accomplishment. Not that we’ve accomplished something huge, but we did turn an old storeroom into a small library. We each grab a book and find a seat and I immediately get to work. Sadly, life intervenes and I have to rush off to sort out a problem between two omegas. I have just returned and started reading when Hunter starts to cry, and I have to take care of him.
