Suddenly, I wanted to know what was inside. I stood up so abruptly that it startled Aunt Julie and Xavier. I marched over to the mantlepiece, grabbed a paper cutter, and sliced my hand with surprising ease. Thick blood oozed from the cut, and I let it fill the dip in the lid of the box where the symbol of blood was engraved. For a second, nothing happened. "Are we supposed to say the magic words or something?" I asked sarcastically. Just as my wound healed faster than any of my wounds ever had—without leaving a scar—the lid of the box absorbed the blood, leaving it pristine. Symbols on the sides of the box filled with crimson, and the lid slowly raised with a soft *pop*.

I trusted her, and I felt she could help me sort out this mess with my boss. "He said that? That you could get away with a fake marriage if you didn't get a license?" Mary asked as she brushed a strand of her lavender curls away from her face. She sat on one of our mismatched dining chairs, with one foot resting on the seat, sipping tea from a psychedelic coffee mug she had made in seventh grade. "Yes. Then he said how important the company was to him and that he would give me a bonus." I poured the cooked fettuccine into the colander and dumped it back into the pot.

The Grand Master slowly turned his face. “I asked where it is.” “It was inside the box!” The man began to stutter. “I swear, it was there!” One of the people near the altar began to murmur, and another made the ritual sign over their own chest. The Grand Master raised a hand, and silence returned. He brought his face close to the box and felt the magical residues—there was something there, but not enough. The creature had been inside, and then it had not been anymore. “This is impossible.” He murmured.

But she didn’t dare ask. In the end… She was just a servant accompanying the Emperor, right? After a few minutes, a sorcerer returned carrying a black wooden box. It was small, but covered in dozens of magical symbols. Even Iris could feel the energy radiating from it. Ashtar took it carefully, then approached Gabriel and handed it to him with both hands. “As you ordered, Your Majesty.” Gabriel took the box without hesitation. But the moment his hand touched it— All the symbols on it vanished instantly.

Because of that theft, ten thousand other worlds died so Earth could have magic. This box holds the bill. It’s time to pay." June felt dizzy and looked down at her baby, Hope. The child stared at the box, wide eyes full of curiosity. Hope reached out and tapped the lid with her little hand. A small gold spark jumped from the box to her finger.

His chocolate brown hair was pushed back, his eyes watching me, tracking the movement of my sword as it moved against my hip. "Just a box. It has everything there is to know about Phoenix shifters." We have to exercise caution.” Lamar chimed in on the telepathic communication, "These individuals from Scarlet Summit are brazen. They dare to cast spells openly while we're present. Are they simply disregarding our presence? Damn it, we have to demonstrate our strength!"

I slowly began to piece together everything. “Where is the box?” I asked once I’d fully absorbed how Evelina had fought the witches in the church. This entire time…it had been her saving my ass. “Here,” Evelina mumbled, moving to the bag resting on the floor next to her feet. She bent down, pulling out the box and bringing it to me. “It burns anyone that tries to open it.” I took it from her, attempting to open it and hissed in pain. The box dropped to the bed, my palms still stinging more than they’d ever stung when touching silver.
