The Nightingale Book Cover Novels & Stories

my voice was barely above a whisper. The ticking of the clock and the shuffling of feet was the only response I got, eliciting an unnerving sigh from me. I skidded quickly away from the aisle and finally found the books that brought me in here. All the Beautiful Things series bore an identical cover where the dominant colour on the book cover was black. I picked the book, Screech, beside it and threw it on the pile in my hands, making my way forward.

One never knew when that information could come in handy. Plus, it’d help to pass the time and keep me busy. Sounded like a win-win to me. There was some type of writing on the front that I couldn’t read, but I could feel the power radiating off of the book. Strangely, Bex couldn’t feel it. I opened the cover, revealing an intricate colored illustration that showed a large silver wolf standing below a blood moon, its head tilted back in a howl. Light from the moon fell in rays onto the wolf.

Just a crescent white moon etched in the center of the cover. My fingers close around it. It’s cold. I glance back at Alex and Ava. They’re speaking in low voices, Alex watching her like a hawk. Good. I open the book, flipping through pages quickly. Hand written text in cursive with black and white pictures of symbols, and unknown diagrams fills the worn page. I squint my eyes and look through the small text until I find what I'm looking for. Mana Wolves. The words almost glow on the page. My heart skips a beat. This is it.

Or maybe Hayden had, knowing him. I glanced at the hardback copy of The Nightingale on Isobel’s lap and winced, wondering if I should’ve brought a copy as well. I’d actually checked mine out from the library and returned it already. Hopefully, I wouldn’t get any brownie points taken away just because— Hey, hold up there. I frowned at Isobel’s hand wrapped around the book and set my empty glass down when I realized her ring finger looked a lot more sparkly than it had the last time I’d seen her.

Diazo said. His voice was what made me realise that they were all staring at her, and she was still in a half torn scrap of lace, the coat she ran out of the private room with was draped haphazardly over her shoulders and she was too out of it to even try and cover herself up more. I was suddenly angry for a different reason. Nightingale is mine! No other male should see her like this, too much of her was exposed, it didn’t matter that they were my men and I trust them with my lives, they were still men. A small part of my brain reminded me that they had been in the room when she was stripping for me, and had seen most of her already. But that was different, I hadn’t known it was her. Fuck!

Behind the panel was a small space, just big enough to hide something. Inside was a single book. It didn’t look like any of the other books in the library. Its cover was dark, almost black, and made of old leather that looked like cracked bark from a tree. The corners were worn down, and it had no title. Just a symbol. A silver moon. It shimmered faintly, even though the light in the library was dim.

Avery’s finger paused on the edge of the illustrated page. Dorothea leaned against her knee, her muted grey eyes blinking up at her. "Mommy, the nightingale has wings to fly. Why doesn’t it run away? The forest outside is so big." Looking down into her daughter’s eyes, which were an exact replica of that man’s, Avery felt a sharp ache pierce her chest. "Because the beast holds the nightingale’s favorite flower in its claws. If the nightingale flies away, the flower will be crushed to dust."

I read it aloud, my voice trembling as the words filled the small room. "Grace, Ethan, Julian... If you are reading this, the Nightingale has fallen. The silence you feel is the sound of the Wolfe name finally being returned to the earth. I am the last of the old blood, and I have chosen to be the one who turns out the lights.

The bedroom had its own bathroom. Ambert went straight to the table at the dining area and sat at one of the two vacant chairs there. He put out his cell phone from his jacket and carefully laid it on the table while Nancy put her bag down on the sofa and walked towards the windows. “You’re not lying when you said your room has a magnificent view,” she said as she absorbed the scenery below: one of the biggest malls in the country located beside the sea. The chaos of different lights coming from the mall contrasted with the monochromatic sea. The stillness of the yachts and boats anchored at the sea juxtaposed the hustle and bustle of people in the mall. It was like a giant Yin and Yang.

The book falls with a thud onto the bed frame. It glows brightly in the sunlight and I do not dare touch it. Its leather bound cover is worn and tattered. It looks to be older than the kingdom itself. Strange lettering is on the front of the book. Symbols from a language that I do not recognize. My fingers itch to touch the cover of the book. Reaching out a finger I lay it gently on the cover of the book. The symbols on the cover shift and change into words that I can understand. "Prophecies of the Fae."
