Lucien's POV I watched her car drive away from the sidewalk through my tinted windows, three cars behind her. She was crying. Even from this far, I could see her shoulders shaking against the glass, and it felt like something was squeezing my throat, making it hard to breathe. I hated watching her cry. I hated that I was the reason. "Sir? We should go to the courthouse now. The press is already there," Arthur, my butler, said quietly from the front seat. He was the only person who knew the real me, not the monster everyone else saw.

“He’ll do it—he’ll burn it all.” Lucien’s ice-blue eyes snapped to mine, glinting with fury, his chest heaving, scars alive under the flickering light. “He won’t touch you,” he growled, stepping closer, boots heavy, his heat slamming into me, thick and wild. “I won’t let him.” My pulse spiked, green eyes fierce, his words clawing at me, protective, possessive, stirring something dark and hot deep inside. “You don’t get it,” I hissed, voice sharp, green eyes blazing, my hand slamming his chest, pushing, nails scraping his skin through his torn shirt. “I’m the reason—he wants me, not you, not them.”

The other braced the wall near my head. Lucien. “You’re not leaving, Elara,” he said, “I can’t let you go now.” I struggled under his grip. “You can’t stop me!” I shouted. “You don’t own me!” Something in his gaze snapped. His eyes shifted, no longer that pale gray that almost looked silver in the light. Now they were pitch black, deep and bottomless just like I had seen earlier. It was like staring into the eyes of a demon pulled straight from the depths of hell.

The forest rang with heavy breaths, the groans of the wounded, the stench of blood. One rogue yet lived, writhing on the ground, a gash spilling crimson down his side. Lucien knelt, pressing his blade against the man’s throat. “Who sent you?” His voice was cold, deadly. The rogue smirked. “Who knows?” Lucien’s eyes darkened. Without saying, he directly slammed the knife that was used to stabbed on my right shoulder—stabbing it on the rogue’s right eye, earning a painful cry from him. Just when Lucien was about to get the knife from his eyes and stabbed it in his other eye, when the rogue hurriedly betrayed his dealer.

Lise cried out loudly as her butt hit the granite, and might have wounded her as well. “Open your eyes,” Andreas spoke in a commanding tone. Yet Lise did open her eyes, she fisted her hands by her side still praying and hoping God would save her from this monster. “Open your eyes.” He snarled and practically spat on her face. The chill of his voice reached down into her cells as she was beginning to scum into the darkness. Her brain ceased to work and she wasn’t able to comprehend what he was actually saying. Her pulse ran wild on her neck, which didn’t go unnoticed by Andreas.

I commanded, my voice cold and steady, even as my soul felt like it was fraying at the edges. Sarah didn't hesitate. She hauled a gasping, semi-conscious Julian toward the door. As they passed Lucien, Julian’s eyes flickered with a dying spark of resentment, but Lucien didn't even look at him. Lucien’s gaze was fixed on me—or perhaps, on the child I was shielding from him. "Elowen," Lucien rasped, his legs finally giving out. He slumped against the doorframe, the biometric unit skittering across the floor. "The boy... is he..."

At least, not in his mind. He stared him dead in his eyes, unable to pull his gaze away from the now-squared jaw, so unlike he remembered it being. Unlike in the past, Lucian had given in, letting his fiery, hateful gaze drop as he stormed out of the room without a word, making sure to avoid any form of physical contact.

Pyritha called out. The door opened, and Lucien walked into the room. But something was wrong with him. His skin was glowing with a faint silver light, and his eyes had changed from their normal color to bright gold. "Hello, everyone," he said with a smile. "Sorry I'm late to the party." "Lucien," I said. "What are you doing here? And what's wrong with your eyes?" "Nothing's wrong with them," he said. "They're just... upgraded."

SAPHRA’S POV “Alpha Lucien! Stand down!” Boots pound against stone. Steel rings as weapons are drawn. I force my head up, vision blurring, just in time to see them, four guards forming a tight circle around him. Lucien stands at the center like something carved from nightmare. His chest rises and falls slowly. His eyes burn with something that isn’t human anymore. “Stand down, my lord,” one of the guards repeats, voice shaking despite his attempt at authority. “You’re not yourself...”

But nothing—nothing—prepared her for facing him now. He was beautiful in the way a predator was beautiful—lethal, controlled, devastating. His dark hair, tousled by the wind, framed sharp cheekbones and an expression carved from stone. But it was his eyes that trapped her. Silver, glowing, furious. Lucien took a slow step inside, his gaze locked onto hers. He barely spared Adrian a glance. “You did it,” he murmured. His voice was quiet, but it carried through the room like a blade slicing through silk.
