Sighing at my own carelessness, I start picking up the pieces, only to realize that they are fewer in number. I frown. The ones I usually wear are missing. I have been so distracted these days that I never even noticed. I search through every nook and cranny, but come up empty handed. This is not normal. There is no way I lost all these pieces I wear every day. It’s not that they are very expensive, but I am not the kind of person to lose things. Leaving the box and the scattered pieces as they are, I stare at them from my seat on the couch. There is a niggling thought at the back of my head, but I can’t quite grasp it.

The question is: what exactly did I lose? And how do I get it back?

My body trembled as the void settled deeper and deeper within me. Then Chaos leaned closer. Its voice dropped to a whisper that echoed everywhere at once. “The void is not void.” More shadows drifted through the dark around us, slow and deliberate, like stars being born. “We are the place where lost things go.” Images flickered through my mind as the shadows moved. Ancient weapons forgotten by time. Broken crowns. Fragments of memories that once belonged to someone who no longer remembered them. “We hold timeless artifacts in our corners.” Chaos’s voice softened further.

"I want to go home and get some rest. Maybe the reason I've been facing these bullshit is because I lost my locket" " Did you say locket? Can you describe it? "Uh yes. It has my picture with mum's and some words on it. You know where it is? "Not really but there's this locket I'm keeping safe for the rightful owner. My maid found it laying on the floor of the hall we had the party" " For real? That means I lost it at the party. I've been looking for it. Do you have it with you? "No. At home. You can come with me to pick it up"

Nothing could fill the void in her heart, not money, not posession, not parties or friends could spark up a little glimpse of happiness in her. Her heart repeatedly pierced by the emotions she couldn't bear nor control, it all seemed like a dream, the nightmare she was dying to crawl out from. Her one true love was gone, the man she had lived years with, gave her all to. Diana couldn't help but soliloquize. "Do I deserve to live? He is in the grave because of me, what's the use of living without him?" As if loosing her parents wasn't enough, she lost Branden.

“Why?” A wry line carves itself on her face. “Children tend to vanish when they venture too far from home. I would hate for any of you to end up like the lost heirs,” she says, and I think she meant it as a joke because her dreary eyes shine with dark humour, but I also think it was a sincere warning. “The lost… heirs?” I repeat questioningly, hopefully a worthy prompt for an elucidation. A ghoulish glint sparks in Hilda’s dull eyes. “The lost heirs; twins that braved into the woods. Rumours speculate that it was to visit their favourite spot by the lake which they visited religiously, but one day… they never returned.”

They had turkey, red wine, fra diavolo pasta, cheese, chocolate cake which was Cathy's favorite and French onion soup which was Jon's. When they were done with lunch, they went to the living to hand over each other their presents. Lee had set up a reading nook by the corner of the living room, adjacent to one of the bedrooms. They sat on the mattress which he had placed on the floor. They took turns in opening the gifts that they received, Lee got a Rolex Submariner Gents watch from Jon, and a blue Karako Suits necktie from Cathy. "I am not expecting this dear, thank you." Chapter One The phone buzzes against my ear, and I already know what's coming. Sally's voice cuts through the morning air like a knife through butter. "Dabe, are you sure you packed everything?" Her tone is sharp, worried. "Your passport? Ticket? Phone charger? You can be very forgetful sometimes. Check everything before you leave the house." I roll my suitcase across the hardwood floor, the wheels making that familiar grinding sound. "I have everything, Mom," I say, letting the sarcasm drip from my words like honey.
