Though he’d had no issue shouting for him in the outer woods. “We tried to fight them. But they hurt us, and then they went to the vegetable gardens. We didn’t know why, but we tried to stop them.” He folded his arms across his chest and pulled himself up to his full height. His brown skin shone dimly in the low light, gleaming as his chest moved beneath his crossed arms. The sunlight caught on a patch of dried blood, and fear settled like a vice around Atticus’s heart. “What did they do when they reached the vegetable gardens?” Ralphin asked gently.

The dark chapter unfolded, revealing Justin's sinister schemes and the growing threat he posed to everyone around him. It was only several months before that he remembered the young Morenno brothers arriving in the valley with their parents, the leaders of the Outsiders living among them in the Dark Zone. Delmar knew what happened between Morenno and his father, only that it ended with malice and threats. Whatever those threats were, he feared that the Morennos were finally acting on them.

Once outside, we continue to move, making our way away from the busy streets of Boston to a more secluded area, and when we arrive, Atticus whirls around, producing the same damn sword as before, and proceeds to attack. Dodging his first blow, I draw on my own powers and cloak myself so he isn’t able to see me. Taking advantage of his momentary distraction, I attack, grabbing him by the arm and then throwing, so he crashes into a tree.

The whole school was soaking with excitement and anxiety about everything that had happened. By lunchtime, they couldn’t take it anymore and burst through the doors of classrooms like tea seeping through a sieve. Brian was the boy who seemed to have a heart, and Charles was the other bully with a heart darker than sin itself.
