I barely had time to lift a bite to my lips before the door creaked open again. The pack doctor entered, his coat stained faintly with blood, his face weary but calm. My heart leapt into my throat as I shot to my feet, unable to breathe. He looked at me, then smiled faintly. “He is out of danger.”

Rhett corrected with a smirk almost inaudibly, tucking a pamphlet into his back pocket. “A polycule,” the doctor repeated, blankly. “Okay.” She led them to a hallway lined with small offices. “It’s going be crowded,” she said dubiously as they shuffled into the office. There was a bed pushed against a wall framed by a curtain, and clustered about with intimidating looking equipment, and a small desk and bookcase, with three chairs, one for the doctor, and the other two presumably for the parents. “I would get more chairs but…” (They wouldn’t fit). “It’s fine,” Heath assured her warmly, gesturing for Aislen to sit, before standing behind her with his hands on her shoulders. “We can stand.”

I held her hand gently and leaned in to kiss her forehead. "It's going to be alright, Veronica. The pack doctor will take good care of you. We'll figure out what's wrong and make you feel better," I reassured her, my voice filled with determination. Just then, the pack doctor arrived, his white coat flapping behind him as he rushed into the room. He was an older werewolf, wise, and experienced in healing pack members. I trusted him completely. "What seems to be the problem, your majesty?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

“When has it ever been anything else?” The pack doctor is a former shaman, a witch of the old order who left the council after an affair with a wolf and a pyromaniac. She lives in the hollowed trunk of an ancient sycamore, her “office” stinking of sage and antiseptic and wolf musk. Elena has been here before, but never as supplicant. She brings all three alphas, the doctor’s orders. Bloodlines must be kept, even in the chaos of their reign; paternity will matter to someone, eventually.

My mother then pulled me into her arms and said, “Thank the Moon Goddess that you are okay.” Just then the pack doctor says, “I’m going to have to operate. One of his organs were nicked and I need to sew him up to stop the bleeding.” I could see at that moment the concern on the pack doctor’s face that this was serious. Alpha Tyler squeezed my hand, and said to me, “Be here when I wake up.’

I watched as the two of them exchanged informatory glances, and I was unable to decipher even one of the many things they said with their eyes. "You're in the Pack's clinic, the doctor just finished treating you. There's nothing to be worried about, you'll be safe here." She replied and I arched my brow in complete confusion. 'Pack's clinic?' I wondered in my head. Was it a new hospital or clinic that I hadn't heard about? Was it in Texas? There were a lot of questions going through my mind. It was certainly a very developed clinic, it was evident from the elite tools and equipment that filled the room.

Doctor South instructed, her voice muffled by the mask. The nurse, holding a clipboard, approached hesitantly. “Doctor South, this is the tenth request we’ve received this month from the southern packs, pleading for your help.” She handed over the file. Doctor South paused, taking the folder from the nurse. Her eyes skimmed the names at the top: Alpha Kevin Taylor of the Silver Crest Pack and Alpha Derek Kingston of the Moonstone Pack. At the sight of their names, her hand stilled, her eyes narrowing as old, painful memories flashed in her mind.

SCAR'S POV (continuation.) "We don't eat our guest silly." He replies. So......am not going to die? When I look back at him, he was staring into space. Then said. "Come in." Come in? The door opens to reveal a man in his early twenties carrying a medical kit with a slim, blue glasses sitting in his pointed nose. Is that a doctor? He seems too young to be a doctor. "Alpha Luna." He bows. "This is our pack doctor, Derek." The grey eye guy introduces. "And this is...."

Her voice was low enough for me to hear. Why was she here? Did Meranda send her? Why couldn't they just let me live? I should've never gone to that engagement ceremony. Before I could respond, Alex and other pack members gathered around us on the training grounds. Alex stepped forward as he introduced the doctor to everyone. "Everyone, this is our new pack doctor, Dr. Mitchell," he announced with a cautious smile. "We are pleased to have you."

The pack doctor, a middle-aged man was standing beside his head side, looking down and not doing anything productive. “ Why are you not taking it out? ” I whispered, catching the attention of the Alpha and the Luna. “ It’s tricky. ” The pack doctor shot me a look from over his thick-rimmed glasses. The only good thing about this whole situation was Striker’s slow heartbeat and soft breaths. I didn’t know what I would do if I didn’t have this comfort either. “ What—What’s tricky about it? ” I stepped forth on my wobbly legs and came to stop beside the doctor.
