Cassandra’s POV I looked away from Larry, overcome with emotion. I needed a moment because I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The promise. The promise I’d made the night Stanley died. I could still the look on his face, still hear the tone of his voice as he took my hand and said: “Promise me you’ll look after Jordyn.” I’d promised him, in a moment of weakness because I loved Stanley and I wanted to make him happy in his final days. But then I’d realized that I couldn’t keep that promise.

He scoffed, clenching and unclenching his fists in fury. "I'll pay it back. I swear." I promised, making sure he could see the honesty in my eyes. "I'm willing to pay interest as well. Help me out, just this once." He paused, studying my expression for a moment. Just when I hoped, he would cave in, he scoffed again. "Fuck off." He snapped, going back to sit in his armchair and diving into his work again. "Elijah, please." I tried again. "It's for my daughter's surgery. You hate me, I get it but she's innocent in all this. Please, don't punish her because of me."

He was the perfect solution to my problems, but there was only one condition he asked before promising me his ‘I do. “Don’t fall for me,” was his unbreakable rule. I laughed at him that day, thinking how easy it is to follow his stupid rule. I’m in love with my ex-fiance, his younger brother Calvin, so what could possibly go wrong? I agreed without hesitation, seeing him as the ticket out of my life’s predicament. Like a raging wave, the realization of my vow’s weight crashed on me. How can I fulfill my promise, when even in the darkness and danger that surrounds him, I’m hauled like a moth to a flame?

Iker nodded resignedly, but his expression remained serious. "I know, I know I assured you that you could trust them without any fear. But there's something that prevents me from fully trusting Greed," he admitted. "I feel like he's up to something with this whole contract thing, and... I know it's too late to agree that you and your child stay out of his world, but now... this. Nothing assures your safety and your child's." "He promised me protection, Iker... I couldn't ignore that opportunity." Iker ran a hand through his hair, visibly frustrated.

He was not sure what he wanted from her. He was obviously excited by her fear, yet bothered by it. “Who marries just because of a childhood promise. Why is mine coming to hunt? I also promised to give my childhood neighbor four children, is he also going to pop out?” she blurted and his cold gaze swept over her. “Your mouth is really quick, isn’t it? It moves before your brain can keep up,” he said. “I’m sorry,” she lowered her head. “I won’t kill you? At least not to keep my secret,” he said in frustration.

She is still a kid, so she definitely does not know anything about life. "Daddy always gets us something whenever he promises us... Uncle Max always does whatever he promised us to do, and the ones he never promised us, he never did them. So, I think promise is a strong thing that validates things," She shrugs, and I slowly nod my head. "So, do you mean your daddy never goes back on his words?" I ask her for some reason I do not understand. "Yes... He has never gone back on his words," She replies to me, and I nod my head. I don't know why I'm suddenly scared, but something keeps telling me that something is wrong somewhere, although I can't picture what exactly it is.

The puzzle pieces gradually fell into place, painting a picture of love, sacrifice, and unforeseen circumstances that had shaped our intertwined fates. Adrian, Emily, and I forged an unbreakable bond, united not only by blood but by the desire to reconcile our pasts and build a future rooted in truth and authenticity. “For the law we uphold—not out of vengeance, but out of promise.” The sword fell. The sound of steel splitting the air—clean, unadorned. “But she didn’t answer directly. She looked at us with that knowing, unreadable gaze of hers and asked why Lunarville continued to ignore prophecy. Why we remained ‘strong-headed.’” Thane’s eyes narrowed. “Prophecy? What prophecy?” Aurora leaned forward, resting her forearms on the table. “We were baffled too. But she said, clear as dawn, that no matter how many traps we lay, how strong of a coalition we form, or how soon we prepare, that we will all perish without the Promised Saviour.’” A heavy silence fell across the room. Thane sat back, breath caught halfway in his chest. The fire crackled in the hearth behind him, but he felt a sudden chill.
