“Well, how should you know? Your father’s practically a ditch digger! You don’t even know how to read, Ezra! Now, leave me be or else I’ll tell my mother you sneak into the sugar jar when her lady’s not looking!” Ezra’s eyes were wide as saucers as he kicked dirt in her general direction and took off toward the carriage house. Meggy considered chasing after him, wanting vengeance for the filth in her hair and sprinkled across the front of her frock, but she heard her proper name being shouted from the house and knew she was already in enough trouble without running after him and soiling herself more. She realized she’d meet the business end of the ruler as soon as she returned to the study.

“Rhode!” Megan screamed as she hurriedly brushed through the masses of dead bodies and thick bush of the forest, she had to get to him fast. “Megan, stay where you are, don't move.” Rhode mindlinked, causing Megan to halt. She had no choice but to listen to him, strange things were occurring all around her, and she was confused. “Megan! There you are!” A relieved voice exclaimed to her right and Megan turned around with great relief to see Rhode running towards her, and he was alright, no limbs missing!

Alive in a way that terrified me. Cassian crouched in front of me, eyes sharp, unafraid. “What did you see?” he asked. I swallowed hard. “Not gods.” “Good,” he said. “Not demons either.” His jaw tightened. “Then what?” I met his gaze. “Warnings.” The word hung heavy. One of the men whispered, “Boss… the readings—” “Get out,” Cassian said without looking away from me. They didn’t hesitate. The door sealed behind them.

I hiss at her. I fling her away from me, refusing to move, even though I know that she’ll be up and at me in a matter of seconds. Never back down from an enemy. It’s what I learned at the side of the Red One. And so I won’t back down, even in the face of a torturess of Hell. Predictably, the second that I release Megeara, she’s up and streaking towards me with a clawed hand. “ENOUGH!”

He recognized it too. A howl pierced the sky. Zen. Thunder tore through the crimson clouds. Silhouettes emerged from the woods, sprinting toward Hezel’s gates. Hunters in radiant robes. Wolves as swift as the wind. The earth birthed poisonous ivy to scale the walls. Hezel was under siege again—but this time, for me. Rogues gasped as the city they thought they’d owned was stormed by those seeking to reclaim their Red Riding Hood. Then… he came. The air shifted. Cold. Still. I turned—barely breathing—until my eyes met his.

And Marie hopped on the bus. The ride went on for hours, but it still wasn’t long enough. On the final leg of the journey, she found herself glancing longingly at the countryside, at the other passengers, at anything that she could think about wistfully. She did not want to be where she was going to be. She didn’t want to see the original monster. Marie carried a tiny scrap of red hoodie that the police said she could have. It was cut out of the original and hemmed neatly around the edges. No fraying. No sawing of blood and bone and fabric and darling little girls.

The color reminded her of the roses in her garden back home. “Red," she whispered. Violeta looked at her with a smirk. "That's a good name. I like it." They finally stopped at a heavy wooden door. A golden plaque with the words ‘VIP Suite’ was engraved on it. Two large men stood in front of it. One with a gun, the other with a knife. Evie almost passed out when she noticed they were holding those weapons. “Her name is Red,” Violeta told the guards. Her voice was a little higher though. Like she wanted someone else to hear her.

With the last of his strength, shivering, Zen crawled from the water and lay on the hard stone ground panting hard. It was cold. It was dark. Yet, it was still a game. [Congratulations! You've discovered a secret room and safe zone. The number of occupants in this safe zone is 1/1.] The window alert made Zen grin. He wasn't the devil yet, but he must have the devil's luck. Who would have expected to find a safe zone in this game? Judging by how it wasn't on the map, this safe zone should help him tide through the rough opening school ceremony.

His skin begins to transform into purple, and his eyes are blood red with yellow pupils - popping out. This seems different, and nothing I have seen Happy Dust can do to people. What did Megan do? "Let the games begin!" Megan announced, creating the crowd excited as Zayn and I watched something that would change for the worst.

"Predictable, huh? Fine. I’ll make myself unpredictable." Arga cut the connection and looked back at his terminal. The monitor showed a map of the floor. The 'red' zone of the infection was encroaching from the North, eating the building one byte at a time. It was a creeping rot, moving in clean, efficient grids, repurposing the tower into a vast processor for the M-ESSENCE.
