Slowly, she looked up. Her eyes burned, but not with sadness.
With rage.
We went to a secret place, and our secret place wasn’t much this time—just the rooftop of the old music hall. Technically off-limits, but we’d found a way up through the storage staircase last year, the boys and I. Nobody came there. No teachers, no cameras. Just sky and quiet.
She didn’t speak the whole way up.
I opened the little rooftop hatch and climbed out first. The breeze hit me immediately. It was cloudy, like it might rain. She followed silently, sitting down by the edge, legs tucked under her.
