Fear, sharp and acrid, was bleeding out of him with every beat of his heart. I stepped closer. My feet slow against the concrete. Each step I took was deliberate. The sound of my claws sliding free filled the room. A soft, dangerous click that echoed off the walls. “You think silence saves you?” My voice was low, the kind of quiet that made wolves in the pack stop breathing. “It doesn’t. All it does is make this slower.” Leonard’s lips pulled into something that looked like a smile…but it wasn’t. It was too tight. Too forced. Like he was holding himself together just by the edges.

Without thinking, I walk towards the front door. Placing my hand on the handle, I push it down and it opens. The cool air hits me and I shiver, the hairs at the back of my neck stand up.
