We head back towards the house and he bumps into my leg repeatedly, trying to get me to turn around. "Stop trying to herd me. I'm not a sheep." I tell him firmly, tossing him a treat as I walk into the bathroom to brush my teeth before bed. I lay down, thinking about the book as I stare at my ceiling. Basil jumps on the bed, spinning a few times before he lays down next to me. I run my fingers through his fur absentmindedly, my brain refusing to stop spinning as I think about the first few pages of the book. It started out with the beginning stages of a war, the main character building an army of werewolves to defeat their arch nemesis.

I closed my eyes, trembling as tears escaped and fell into the food. "Happy birthday, Eleanor Shaw," I whispered to myself. "Keep moving forward—onward forever. Even if no one loves you, there's still light at the end of the tunnel. As Jeffrey said, you have enjoyed over 20 wonderful years of wealth and privilege. You've had it good." Just like that, I repeated words of comfort to myself as I wiped away my tears. I moved all my belongings that I had sorted out over the past two weeks in the living room.

He whispered one word to himself. “Firewall.” Then he walked toward the light. ~~~~~~~~~~ BOOK OF BLOOD — NEW ENTRY “There was never room for love in our world. So we carved it into the spaces between bullets and betrayals.” “We didn’t fall in love. We folded it into the war and dared it to survive.” —Aria

And as she touched it, The book opened itself. The world froze. Every breath held hostage. Every sound dulled, Because on the first page of that sealed book was Liolai’s name. Over and over again, Written in different hands. Different scripts. Some trembling. Some angry. Some loving. Each line was a version of Liolai that had died in another telling. Dozens, Hundreds, Thousands. The daughter who never lived. The daughter who was stolen. The daughter who never forgave. The daughter who turned into ink.

I commanded, my voice echoing with a resonance that was not entirely my own. The iron bolts groaned, a sound like a giant waking from a long slumber. The door swung open slowly, revealing a chamber filled with a soft, ethereal glow. Thousands of scrolls were tucked into honeycomb shelves that reached into the darkness above, and in the center stood a pedestal made of pure obsidian. On it sat the book, bound in skin that shimmered like a raven’s wing. "The Book of Shadows," Lila whispered, her torch flickering as if the room itself were trying to snuff it out. "It actually exists."

And yet the last light of the evening fell through. Golden. Warm. Almost alive. There were three beds in the room. Little. Ordinary. Despite the decades. A closet. A table. A shelf full of books. All covered with dust. And yet nothing was left. Not really. It's safe. Like someone was looking after it. “Look at this.” Elio already knelt beside the shelf. The books were old. Very old. Fairy tales. Kidneys. School books. Character blocks. And there was a little notebook in between.

I hated how steadying it felt. I stepped back before I could think too hard about that. "Just — explain. You said you'd seen this before. What did you mean?" "There's a novel," he said. "About a wolf warrior who enrolls at an academy and starts shifting into a black wolf instead of the rare white wolf she was born with. No one can explain it. Not at first." My pulse spiked. "Who wrote it?" "Sophie Miller, I think." The name hit me like a blow to the chest. The world tilted, sound rushing out of my ears until all I could hear was my own heartbeat, deafening.

"Gift?" "Yes, a Christmas present." She answered. "And yours?" The lady asked. She shrugged. "Any plans for Christmas?" "Yes, me and my blanket, snuggling on my bed," she whispered and laughed. "Too cold outside." After buying the gift she was checking out of the shop when the owner gave her the booklet, the same one she wanted to buy, " A gift for your next novel. May you have a miraculous Christmas!" She winked.

“Sure thing, sweetie. I’ll bring it right up.” “Thanks Etsu.” “No problem, kiddo. And the tarts on the house.” As Etsu walked over to serve the other guy Caitlynn reached into her bag and pulled out her book. For today it was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. She turned to her bookmark, slipped it out and began reading from page 193. Her gaze swept across the pages, dark brown eyes drinking in every word in the tale told by Death. She loved this book because the characters intrigued her, most specifically the main protagonist, Liesel.

No one has found the bodies yet, though, so theres still a lingering hope out there that they're alive. I sigh as I crawl under the thick quilt, flicking on the lamo beside me as I pull out my latest find at Barnes and Nobels: The Winter Garden by the famous Kristin Hannah. This woman's books are truly amazing. Then, after an hour long reading session, I find my eyes beginning to shut against my will, so I set down the book on the bedside table and shut off the lamp. ~ The next morning...
