The lake reflected the early sky, pale gold and silver, streaked with hints of pink.
“Listen,” I whispered, guiding his tiny hand to the surface of the water.
“Do you feel that?”
He giggled, his fingers curling as the ripples spread out. My power hummed faintly, answering him, the energy responding to his innocent touch. The water glimmered for a heartbeat, not bright enough to startle, but just enough to shimmer with quiet warmth.
“That is nature’s song,” I said softly, brushing a kiss across his forehead.
“It is everywhere, even when it is silent. You just have to listen.”
