Her eyes snap open, glowing so bright I have to squint, and the heat rolling off her is like standing too close to a bonfire. "Sophia!" I drop to my knees and lay her on the ground, hands hovering over her, desperate and useless. "Baby, hold on—" Her back arches off the stone, and the glow surges. Not the soft moonlight. Not even the hot white flare from before. This is violent. Wild.
