I turned my head slowly, following his gaze. Silver flashed between the trees. Not Garrett's warriors returning. Something else entirely. Eyes that glowed not amber but cold, metallic silver. And there were dozens of them.

He was quieter than he'd been this morning, more deliberate, like he has taken on new information and is deciding how to carry it. I noticed the difference immediately. I was, I realized, already learning to read him. That realization was its own small alarm. "The Moonborn line," he said. "You know I mentioned it last night." "You said they were wiped out." "Fenna disagrees with the past tense." His gaze remained steady. "Silver eyes are a Moonborn marker. They surface under stress or power or when the bloodline is trying to declare itself. Fenna has treated three generations of wolves. She has never seen silver eyes outside of old records."

Jake asked in the same tone. "How much can you pay for... Oh wait, who's this beautiful lady here?" that man asked. "Eva. Eva Silver", I forwarded my hand with an awkward smile. I’ll wait. She stared at the message for a long time. Then she turned her phone off and tried to sleep. Sleep didn’t come easy. In the dream she walked toward Ethan but kept glancing back, pulled by something she couldn’t name.

The gold light between us became so bright that the people on the docks fell to their knees, shielding their eyes. Jane screamed a human scream, full of agony and terror. How am I supposed to be going around with a silver eye? Won’t it cause suspicions??” I groaned at how my things seemed to always be the other way around. “I don’t have an answer to that, I haven’t come across a hybrid with a silver orb, I think you’re the first and I intend on finding out if there’s something written about it.” She mumbled with determination.
