I turned my head slowly, following his gaze. Silver flashed between the trees. Not Garrett's warriors returning. Something else entirely. Eyes that glowed not amber but cold, metallic silver. And there were dozens of them.

He was quieter than he'd been this morning, more deliberate, like he has taken on new information and is deciding how to carry it. I noticed the difference immediately.
