The Space Between Novels & Stories

Three notes carried separately for decades by two people in different cities who had no idea the other was carrying them. Landing here. On a Thursday evening. In a small sitting room. He looked at her. She looked at him. And the space between them, which had been managed and measured and maintained and then quietly and stubbornly narrowed, became something that required no name to be real. It simply was. It had always been. From before either of them knew it was happening. “Twenty-three days,” she said softly. “Yes,” he said. “And then everything after,” she said. “Yes.”

No tension. No unanswered question demanding resolution. Just space. And the realization that space Could either become distance. Or something else entirely. And for the first time She didn’t know which one it would be.

Nothing that sounds like I’ve made a decision without him. “Honestly, I’ve never really understood why people put space between them when they’re trying to fix things,” I say carefully. “How is space supposed to help anyone get closer again?” He narrows his eyes. “That’s not an answer.” “I meant it,” I say quickly. “We’re a couple, right? Space isn’t what we need. If anything… maybe we’ve had too much of it. With me doing this, going to meet other men, it’s felt like we’ve been apart already.”

Sarah rolled her eyes. "Alright, I will work on it," Daniel frowned. Sarah raised an eyebrow questioningly. "Do you feel uncomfortable being too close to him?" "No..." In fact, occasionally it was the other way around. He would often find himself accidentally standing way too close to Nathan before he became aware of their position and pulled himself back. He was overly comfortable around Nathan, who attracted him like a magnet, and he did not want to be that creep who had no sense of personal space and hovered over people threateningly. He was worried Nathan would be uncomfortable around him. Daniel sighed. "Then, I will discuss it with him."

Real. And for the first time. that messiness felt beautiful. Because perfection. perfect unity, perfect separation, perfect stability. all led to stillness. But this. this constant adjustment. meant the system was alive. Truly alive. I exhaled slowly. Then said quietly. “The space between us matters.” A pause. Then. “Yes.” Not just the connection. Not just the difference. The space that allowed both to exist together. Without collapse. Without possession. Without fear becoming permanent.

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT: THE SPACE BETWEEN HELD BREATHS Lena's Pov The night after I told him about the placement, I didn’t sleep. Not because of fear but because of space. The idea of it stretched between us like a living thing. Six months. A country away. Time zones and new streets and unfamiliar skies. It wasn’t a threat exactly, but it wasn’t harmless either. Space could soften things… or sharpen them into something you couldn’t touch without bleeding.

A ghost of a memory I haven't formed yet. I blink, and the feeling is gone. He’s Cole. My Cole. But as the helicopter turns toward the horizon, I realize that the space between wrong and right didn't just disappear. It’s inside me now. And I have no idea what it’s going to do next.

Viola cut her in between her discourse, “You’re so good at this. You have expounded it thoroughly and I came to my realizations as well. I admire you, Con.” Connie felt like flying in bliss. It’s just Viola who effortlessly makes her heart leaped with joy. “So does that mean we’re good now? Forgive me please?” “Of course, Con.” Connie mouthed the words ‘thank you’ with a slightly playful grin. Viola smiled at her which made her smile as well. “By the way does he have enough room for us?”

she said in an attempt to make her friend laugh . Indeed it worked as Belie burst i to laughter but was grateful to have such a person who could make her happy in anyday and anytime. Just as they were having a talk and a discussion as to how they would grow the spa and have the baby Belie's phone rang and it was a strange number.
