The horses stamped their feet in alarm, and only after intensified prodding, snoring, stepped into the clearing. CHAPTER 52 DAWN AT THE QUARRY XANDER’S POV Wren woke up screaming and we didn’t have time to let her finish. “How long until dawn,” I said, already moving, already shouting for Marcus, for horses, for anyone still awake enough to fight. “Two hours,” Caleb said, checking the sky through the window. “Maybe less.” Two hours to save a woman I hated, in a place none of us had ever seen, against a man who could apparently reach into my own sister’s chest from miles away and make her scream on command. Great odds. Love it!!

The girl beside me was up and off to the door in seconds without even looking back at me. “Damon! You have a visitor” Dawn was almost shouting as she opened the door for her brother. “Hmm?” He hummed out in uncertainty. I can feel them approaching. “I said you've got a visitor waiting on you inside” she giddily informed once more. “Dawn, you've got a stranger inside?” His voice was rising but still leveled in rising annoyance. “Is it the balding big man again?” He was almost rushing in already. “No. Not him this time around.”

"I don't even remember his name. It was just a one-night stand." "Well, you never know," Alex said optimistically. "Stranger things have happened." Jessica knew her friend was right. She had a long road ahead of her, but with Alex by her side, she felt a glimmer of hope.

Jaxter kept their destination tightly under wraps. "Are we going to a cold region?" asked Hayle, who appeared sleepy again. Her biological clock followed her original American time zone, now midnight, but due to a significant time zone difference, it was unexpectedly bright here. Clearly, there was snow all around them, so why did Hayle need to ask? Jaxter nodded, ensuring Hayle was ready for the temperature difference outside. When the airplane door opened, Jaxter and Hayle immediately disembarked and headed straight to the waiting car that would take them directly to their accommodation.

The air was colder here and the darkness was even more suffocating.

What he said did happen! They thought it would eventually leave, but the energy got nearer and nearer so they both took an attacking stance againts the darkness. Dior pushed Farran behind him and slowly opened the door. Darkness has engulfed the hallway, but Dior has good night vision. Holding his wife's wrist, they tackled the lonely and dark hallway. Each clack of their shoe against the floor echoed across the hallways, and both of them didn't bother hiding it. Since the undead eyeing them arrogantly released its energy, then Dior and Farrah doesn't have to hold back.

"Are you perhaps Miss Anderson by any chance? He asked politely, I was confused at first but I nodded. "Alright then, you need to follow me." He said as he slightly bowed and allowed me to walk in front. Still confused I followed him out of the cafe and to my surprise, an expensive looking lemo was at the front. Now, don't get me wrong, I've been in a lemo a number of times but it was always exciting to see the interior design. The stranger, whatever his name was, opened the door for me and gestured for me to enter, there was already a black curtain in front of the door, I believe for privacy.

The tawny young girl, kneeling on the stone church floor, carved the candles smooth. The sheared-off drops fell to her lap, trapped in the furrow of rough cloth. As her knife skimmed along the candle's edge, she hummed. And as she hummed, she talked to the odd little creatures that lived in what they called the Candlewood.

The bar tender took the cue from Ko’cher to move to a safer distance as well as he too stood staring at the Stranger do the business with round saucer-like eyes. After Oswald the Stranger was done, he stood up from the bar stool and he turned and stared at Ko’cher. The Stranger’s eyes were brimming with energy. He gave a faint nod at Ko’cher, as if to say thank you and he will now honour the deal they had. And Oswald the Stranger disappeared in a flash of bright light!
