As I grappled with these thoughts, footsteps approached softly behind me. I turned back slowly, half-expecting to see Xander or one of the others, but it was Marcus who appeared, his face loving and understanding. He sat down alongside me on the smooth, dew-covered grass, his eyes reflecting the lovely brightness of the moon.
“Aria,” Marcus mumbled quietly, his tone warm and honest, “sometimes the most beautiful strength comes from accepting your imperfections.”
I scowled, still submerged in the jumbled mirror of my thoughts. “My scars... I always believed they were memories of what I lost, or of how I wasn’t enough.”
