Still wearing my suit pants and half-buttoned shirt, I slowly walked downstairs with caution like a man approaching a crime scene. The second I reached the dining area, Cassia beamed excitedly beside the table. “I made toast bread,” she announced proudly. I looked down at the plate. Then blinked, and then looked again. The toast was black. Like it had survived a house fire. I slowly lifted my eyes toward her. “Is… that edible?” Cassia gasped dramatically. “Of course it is!” she defended immediately before grabbing one proudly and taking a bite herself like she was trying to prove a point.

“A heartfelt, slightly burnt apology with a side of juice and questionable presentation.” I take a bite of the toast and give him a look. “If you’re trying to bribe your way out of trouble, this is a solid start.” “Don’t act like you’re not impressed.” He gestures at his bow tie. “I accessorized.” “That you did. Like a very confused but enthusiastic butler.” Theo laughs and leans in to kiss my cheek. “Confused, enthusiastic, and entirely at your service.” I lift the glass of juice and press it gently against his bare chest. “Then here’s to weird mornings, burnt bacon, and men who wear formal accessories with absolutely nothing else.”
