One of the wolves—a large male with a jagged scar over his left eye—stepped forward, snapping his jaws. "You're dead," the wolf projected, his mind-voice thick with confusion and aggression. "We saw the broadcast. Veronica burned the body. You are a parasite wearing a corpse's skin." The other two wolves bristled, moving to flank him. They were young, impressionable. They had been fed Veronica’s lies for weeks. They saw a crippled Alpha, a rogue child, and a threat to their reality.

Vickon Blackwynd growls real low to my face, his big chest moving up and down against the furs. “Yeah. One alpha and shit like that.” Despite the depth in my tone, she didn’t seem too affected. Interesting. “What is your definition of a big bad wolf? The one?” My question seemed to have caught her off guard, but she didn’t react to it. Leaning back in her seat, she started, “A big bad wolf is usually the most misunderstood one in the pack, someone who’s responsible for everyone. Everyone watches his every step and every expectation of him is high. They do all they can to protect what they have, which sometimes comes with a lot of bad.”

“They have nothing to do with your damn Order.” A mocking laugh left the wolf’s throat. “Nothing to do with the Order? You betrayed the Order, Marek. You defected. You sided with their pack. You sided with him.” He flicked his gaze briefly to Kael. “And with her.” His eyes slid toward Violet with clear disgust. “A witch who dares to touch power she doesn’t understand.” Marek said nothing. Didn’t give him the satisfaction. “To see you like this now…” the wolf continued, stepping closer, voice dripping with cruel amusement, “is rather poetic, don’t you think? The fallen Alpha, hanging like a farm animal in his own filth.”

I had hope that it wouldn't just happen now. But like every other year, at this point I would wish that my name wasn't my name. I would wish that I wasn't Allison Bush, the last air of the Bush who actually is the only one that turns into a full wolf on a full moon. I was trying to run from that and some other things.. But then again, you can't run away from yourself!!

He paused, his eyes scanning my face for any sign of understanding. “I couldn't help but laugh, I guess either I'm hearing things or I'm not the only crazy one in the room.” Zayn stepped closer, his movements deliberate and careful, as if I might bolt at any moment. “You’re a wolf,” he said, his voice steady. “You always have been.
