Heidi’s eyes didn’t waver. “I mean it, Jack. I always have.”
Jack stared at her, the scotch burning down his throat.
“But you left me,” he said. “You walked away.”
“I left because you weren’t there anymore,” she said, her voice thick with old hurt. “After Saudi Arabia, after you lost them… you shut down. You weren’t the man I married. You weren’t the man who always fought back.”
Jack lowered his gaze. The weight of her words fell heavy on his shoulders.
