The bunny women squirmed slightly under her touch, clearly feeling awkward, but they did not quite know how to refuse either. After all, this pretty human woman had obviously come with the handsome man who had saved them.

I sigh as a bit of relief comes to me and I lay on the bank with my face close by the water, should I need to dip again. Movement catches my attention, and I snap up onto my fours and watch the reflection of a group in the water. I roll my eyes up to meet them. Several males, and double the number of females watch me. These wolves are much bigger in stature, and have much more weight than I. Even the females are sleek and healthy with strong bodies and round curves. Something I've lost much of in my journey. I would do well to handle one female alone, there's no chance of me surviving this group.

Marissa POV The women's block was its own special hell. Not because the women were more violent than the men though some were but because the cruelty was more subtle. Psychological warfare instead of physical assault. Whispers and stares and alliances shifting like sand. They'd put me in a cell with three other women. One ignored me completely, reading a Bible with single minded focus. Another, a young girl who couldn't be more than nineteen, watched me with terrified eyes. The third studied me with calculating interest.

By the silence between songs. By every pair of tiny eyes that look at me with hope, not knowing the monster I used to be. I will always be the woman who could never become a mother. The woman who destroyed her chance at being someone's wife. Maybe my story was never meant to have a fairytale ending. Because this isn't a fairytale. This is reality. A cruel one. Some stories don't have happy endings. Especially for women like me. Perhaps my story never had an ending at all.

Then the doors opened. --- They came in the way that women came into spaces that had been created specifically for them — with a particular quality of relief, the relief of a space that did not require them to be smaller or more appropriate or more careful than they naturally were. They came in talking to each other, filling the room with the comfortable noise of women who knew each other or were meeting each other for the first time and finding, immediately, the particular frequency of recognition that gathered in spaces like this.

I felt my head banging, as I turned the door knob to the office, where the final interview was being held. The secretary's face expression had lowered my self-esteem the more I was late, that being considered. All eyes were fixed on me, as I took the last available seat out of three meant for applicants. Four judges sat opposite side, three females and one male. I knew I was done for as females are notoriously known to be more fierce. Soon, it was my turn and everything went upside down.
