I was really undeserving of my best friend's care and affection. I could only offer this little wish for her. So this wish should be hers- But before I could make a wish, Kane whispered. "I wish you a healthy and happy life." I opened my eyes a bit and I saw Kane smirking at me. He was still arrogant and unscrupulous but his words warmed up my heart. I closed my eyes again, changing my words and making a sincere wish. 'I wish the people who cared about me...and the people I cared about...will have a healthy and happy life. May they be safe and sound this year.'

I dragged trailing off, My voice faltering under the weight of what I wasn't saying. A nervous chuckle escaped me as I rubbed the back of my neck, heart pounding against the walls of restraint. "I just-look Nadia, I don't know how to say this without sounding more ridiculous, but you've been on my mind more than I'd like to admit." My voice softened. "I don't want to make things harder for you... or for me. But I had to see you again." I stopped, biting back the rest of my words, before I could go any deeper, hoping she might hear the truth I couldn't bring himself to say.

“So, what is your wish, Eli?” The question stilled her. I saw it—the subtle shift. Her gaze moved from one face to another, as if searching, as if weighing something within herself.
