By the time we reached a small clearing with a wooden bench overlooking a sparkling lake, I felt lighter, as though I’d left some of the weight of my worries behind on the trail. My hand came up to trace his jaw, my thumb brushing over his swollen bottom lip. “I’ve been with a lot of people,” I said quietly. “Women. Men. I’ve done things I’m not proud of.
