There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Clover Book Novels & Stories

They looked very old. I picked up the first book. The cover felt soft under my fingers. I opened it carefully. The writing was faded in places, but I could still read it. "My name is Althea of Whitemore," the book began. "This is my story." Althea. Who was Althea? Was this Noah's and Neal's grandmother? Why would her book be hidden here? Why would my locket open her secret room? I turned the pages slowly, my eyes growing wider with each sentence.

"Who the hell are you? This is Lucy's house. What does it have to do with you?" "Seriously, there are all kinds of shameless people these days." The others immediately joined in. I didn't waste a single word arguing with them. Instead, I walked straight to the front door and pressed my hand against the fingerprint scanner. With a sharp beep, the door unlocked. Everyone froze in shock. But then the same relative suddenly spat on the ground and shouted, "So that's it! You secretly changed the locks!" A few younger relatives chimed in indignantly. Anyone would think they were sixteen again and this was their first date! I had made myself a quick sandwich and led on the couch with one of my favourite books, The Thorn birds. With nothing but the grandfather clock ticking away, I started to imagine the life of the Cleary family as I got lost with each written word. Taking the book with me, every time I left the warmth of the couch to feast on yet another snack or use the bathroom.

Emily leaned forward, almost stumbling open the poor lady, and watched in anticipation. We watched with eagle-like eyes as Mary took a hold of the cover and... she couldn't open it. AVA’s POV The old lady tied her disheveled hair up into a bun, opening the door slightly and peeking through the short gap. Stepping back, she closed the door, locking it, leaving me confused. What I was not expecting was for her to walk over to the bookshelf, retrieving two books with on hand and pushing a brick hiding behind the shelf. “What are you doing?” “What does it look like I’m doing?” she looked back at me with a defiant smirk on her lips. My jaw dropped once she finished pushing on the bricks, and a secret passage opened up behind the wall.

That old lady said in an angry voice, and It was enough to shut me up. “It really helps,” I touched my throat and the burning sensation just vanished. “So focus on this bowl of water,” He nudged me and I looked inside the bowl. A clear muddy green liquid was present in it. For a moment I thought, He really gave me poison or something dangerous but sh*t! I was so wrong. “Her scared look is entertaining,” The old lady commented and It seemed like someone put a screen in that bowl of water. I saw Freya, who was running like a scared cat towards a room.

“One! You have more?” But she was already on her way out, gently closing the door behind her. I couldn’t help but think of how graceful Darynem were. Such a sharp contrast from what we had been taught back in Anoryl. I took a deep breath and stepped deeper into the library. A well-dressed old lady had pushed a trolley to my bedside and was sitting on a chair regally. “Um, Hello, ma’am, where am I?” I asked, confused. “At least, you have manners.” The old lady commented crudely and I was surprised. Instead of answering my question, she nodded toward the trolley that had a stainless steel cloche covering a plate and a large glass filled with a green drink, “Drink it all. You will feel better.”

Damn if I didn’t still see her in pigtails, running barefoot through the yard, always trying to keep up with her sister. I eased onto the bench, cradling my lemonade like it held more than citrus.
