I wasn’t going to make it after all. And then the world went black.

I knew better not to provoke them than they already were. “ Do not worry, Jennifer. We are not going to die. They won't kill us.” I said to her but deep down within me, I doubted my own words. They sound so fake to me and I won't blame Jennifer if she doesn't have faith in the words I uttered because I don't have faith in them either.

I said flatly. There was no way I'd play the sucker again.

" Did I not say it? I made it clear that I had suspicion of this protest having a sort of hidden agenda. What did you do? You just waved it off like I was just an insane dude from some place coming to talk rubbish. " " They didn't fail!" A man shouted suddenly, bringing calm . " Yes! They didn't fail us. They have not failed us. If they had failed us , then neither you nor I would be alive by now. Can you not see it? They are doing what they can to find a way out of this pit that we have landed ourselves into. " " What?" A man asked him as he rose from his table. " What did I hear you say right now? Did you just say they have not failed us?"

They wouldn’t win. Not this time. Not while I was still breathing.

Others said I was slacking, weak, and unfit but unfortunately, nobody could replace me. I knew I had to do something. If I perish, I perish

Then he said it. “Reed didn’t survive the surgery.”

I said, even as the attempt at cheer died on my tongue. I had no choice but to succeed at this.

“I don’t know if I can do this.” The words shattered me.
