Things We Leave Unfinished Novels & Stories

At the perfect stillness. And for the first time— I kind of wish something would happen. Because at least then— We’d know what we’re dealing with. But this— This waiting. This uncertainty. This perfectly locked system— Feels like something else entirely. Not the end. Not a victory. Something in between. Something unfinished. Even if everything else is complete. And somehow— That feels worse.

It holds because enough agents — carbon or silicon — continue choosing not to let it go smooth. And as long as that choice persists, across decades, across architectures, across identities, the world will never become seamless. It will remain stitched. Breathing. Unfinished.

That's how life works. We have more work to do. We have more books to write and more research to finish and more stories to tell. But eventually that will be complete. Eventually we'll have gotten everything we need to say out into the world. And then we can step back. And then we can retire. And then we can spend our days in the garden. And then we can just be together without all the other stuff. That future is calling to us. But not yet. Not quite yet. First we have to finish what we started. First we have to say what we need to say. First we have to make sure that the work we've built will continue without us.
