“Do you know what you are?” The question hangs in the air between us. Simple. Direct. And impossible for me to answer. Because I do not. Not really. I know what I can do. I know what happens to me. But that does not explain anything. It does not give it a name. Other than the one I have always used. A freak. The thought lingers, quiet but familiar. I do not say it out loud. I do not say anything at all. Because I do not have an answer.

" I thought I was the only one who was an over-thinker ." I looked across and smiled at Toby. " Welcome back to the land of the living. I hope you were lost in peaceful dreams. I am an over-thinker. I just like to process things and get into my head. Sometimes I get stuck in my head and I can't get out but when I do get out I sound normal, I don't have my head voice on. "

I leveled my face with hers, then held it, using a finger to wipe the tears that streamed down freely. “What? You think I’m going to judge you?” She swallowed. That answered my question. I laughed a little. “Don’t you think that would make me the biggest hypocrite? Have you forgotten who I am? What I do most nights when I come out here?” “But it’s not the same thing. You don’t necessarily need this to survive. But as for me… clearly, that’s a different matter entirely. I’m a freak.” “Hey, don’t say that. Don’t ever say that. You’re not a freak, okay? I will never see you like that.”

It's added a whole other layer to our dynamic. "We got this," Trick grabs her pencil and taps it on the word he wants her to spell as they get to work. He gets everything, and I worry what happens when maybe we move on, or what if he moves on. The thought tightens my chest, and I tell myself every day not to think about it. To not put the negative thoughts in the world, to not give them power, but as someone who's lived life the way I have for the last few years, it's hard not to.

"I'm a freak." I smile nodding. I heard those words every day of my life for years. Now its no longer an insult, it is my identity, because this freak is a king. "No more than I am." I voice out. I am not sure if it will do anything to help her, but it wouldn't hurt. "But I am surprised to see your control over the wind and the earth." I have only ever seen Fire being produced before, I have never thought that even the week can be influenced like that. I guess I just thought that only my type of ability existed.

He throws back that sexy smile, the one with the dimples, but it doesn’t ease my doubts. “It doesn’t make you think I’m a freak?” I don’t know why I do this to myself; it comes up every so often and I guess after all that’s happened these past months, I am still feeling insecure enough to worry. Worry that I’m abnormal, damaged, and disgusting. “An awesome freak.” he winks naughtily at me. “Ha Ha. I’m being serious, Arry. You don’t think I’m weird because sometimes I sort of hurt you?”

My eyes lit up, a smile tugging my lips up at the corners. He frowned. "Why are you smiling like that?" "That was my idea." "Oh... well, then. I will go first." He paused to think, leaning back in his seat and studying me from afar. I watched cautiously as he seemed to take in my appearance like I was a suspect in a case. It made me think I should be coming up with my own good questions to ask him. But then he shifted forward again and said, "What's your favourite colour?" I couldn't help it, I burst out laughing. "It took you that long to think of that?"

My name's Elizabeth Morgan, I'm 17 and a senior at Hillside High. If you didn't catch on, I live in this town called Hillside. We have lots of hills, and it's the most boring place I've ever lived.
