Shadows of Silk & Steel: A Billionaire's Secret, A Bodyguar

Shadows of Silk & Steel: A Billionaire's Secret, A Bodyguar

Him? “Not ‘king,’” Anton breathed. The pieces snapped together with awful, perfect symmetry. Marcus’s obsession, his endless, pathetic game. “He didn’t see himself as the king. He was the other piece. The one that moves in straight lines, that attacks from the side. The one that can become anything if it reaches the end.” He stepped up to the panel, his voice clear and steady, speaking directly into the microphone. “The key is ‘Queen.’” For a second, nothing. The countdown reached 00:00:07.

Blood King

Blood King

Belle looked at Maddie, who in turn was looking at her with confusion. Lord Thomas walked over to The King and knelt in front of him. Holding up a little ting box. Taking the box from Thomas hand, the King looked right at Jezzebelle. His fingers were rubbing the small box over and over his nerves were really unsettled. "Jezzebelle could you come to me." He wanted to add please but to him that would sound like he was begging and he never begs. Whispers filled the hall even more. Belle felt like her legs were jelly. She managed to move to the front of everyone and stood in front of the King. Belle curtsied very deeply.

Mr King

Mr King

Keisha confessed earnestly, knowing very well that Grace would not be able to figure out her worries if she tried. "Why would you say that? Did something happen?" Grace's concern was clear on her round face. Keisha smiled and shrugged. "What's happening? Mr King is having dinner out here. That's rather unusual of him, don't you think," she fished, sounding as nonchalant as she could manage.

Once His Wallflower, Now His Biggest Mistake

Once His Wallflower, Now His Biggest Mistake

I said, looking up at the moon, "is about to realize that her escape was just a detour. She belongs on a throne. And I am the only man who knows how to build one." I hung up and stepped into my waiting car. The game was no longer about a company. It was about a Queen. And in the game of chess, the King is the most vulnerable piece on the board. Caleb Knight was the King. And I was the player about to checkmate him.

He obeyed Katty's words. "I will be right back," replied the king, then kissed Katty. "Your horse is there." Katty said, pointing to a large tree in front of her hut. The king nodded. Katty smiled to let go of the king. "Lourine Chatrine. Your devastation is coming. Prepare for the big shock." Katty said, then laughed.

A Prophecy of Crowns and Harmony

A Prophecy of Crowns and Harmony

Finn held his empty arm out to her, and she sidled up to him, letting him hold her against his side. Aidan’s observant eyes met mine, and he tilted his head to the side sharply as he looked at me. “Is that the king?” he said in an almost whisper. “Yes, that’s the king,” Finn said with a chuckle. “King Lukas,” he added. Aidan’s little head gave me a bow, and I smiled and returned the gesture, and his eyes twinkled. “Where’s the queen?” he asked me, his head cocking to the side again.

The Lycan King's Forbidden Craving

The Lycan King's Forbidden Craving

But before he could process the revelation, a voice sounded behind the imposing oak doors: "All rise for His Majesty, the King of Lycans, the Sovereign of the Lunaris Citadel, the Moon’s Chosen, and the Supreme Ruler of the Great Packs—King Duncan Thornevale!" The door creaked open, and he stepped in, immediately commanding silence and attention. His fine golden cloak billowed behind him as he walked through the grand hall, each of his steps powerful. Kael, now standing a little closer to the path the king would pass, focused his gaze on the male, and as he did, his eyes slowly widened until they reached their limits, recognition settling over him.

Dark, Twisted but really good. At first the story is Dark with too much Twisted scenes. Romance development it's the Best trait in this story. I enjoy it a lot, yet it's not perfect, half the story it's too much to handle with really disturbing scenes. Also I like better the second couple. congrats!

I love this story and writing! The story of Lylah grew on me and where the second part took her. This book became more than the Lycan King’s craving, and it’s now our craving. If you haven’t read this yet I suggest you do! But uh, when will you write more??? Please do. We need to see this through!...

Frequently Asked Questions

The idea of a 'tragic past' as motivation can feel overplayed, but with the Void King archetype, it's often the engine, not just the backstory. It's less about sadness and more about foundational trauma restructuring his entire worldview. A void isn't just empty; it's a space defined by what was violently removed. So when his past involves annihilation—a kingdom, a family, a self—the void he comes to command is a literal manifestation of that loss. He doesn't just fill a power vacuum; he becomes the vacuum.

This usually follows a specific arc. First, the tragedy shatters his connection to conventional morality or systems of order. He sees the rules as the thing that failed to protect what he loved, so he rejects them entirely. That's why so many void users are isolationists or system-breakers. Their power grows from a refusal to engage with the world on its terms. The 'rise' is often a slow, corrosive process of turning his personal void into a force that can consume the realities of others.

Look at it through the lens of the 'regressor' or 'returner' trope, which is common here. The tragedy isn't a single event in the distant past; it's a lived memory he carries from a failed timeline. His void power might stem from the literal emptiness left by repeating cycles of loss. Every step of his rise is calculated to prevent that specific tragedy, making his power cold, efficient, and utterly detached from the present world's concerns. His kingdom is built on the graves of a future that only he remembers, which is a uniquely potent kind of tragic fuel.
