This was so surreal that they could not believe what they were seeing. "What's going on? Who are they waiting for? Who on earth has the right to have these people wait for them?" The printer was a little finicky, and it took 15 minutes to print the agreement. This was probably the longest Sandra had ever waited for me throughout our past few years of marriage.

He even helpfully flipped the printed photo over for me to see. The young woman in the image wore a pale layer of powder, but a dark birthmark clung to her skin like a monstrous claw, impossible to ignore. Ewan was looking for me! The thought lodged in my chest like a thorn, making me increasingly uneasy. So, when I was called into Ewan's office the following noon, I was still a little out of it.
