It was the eighth loop. I opened my eyes. The boundary was hard-locked. That was intel I'd bought with my life. The space above and below just looped back on itself, which meant this building was a sealed, closed-circuit universe. If there was no way out physically, then time had to be fake, too. That meant the only flaw was in the rules themselves. I pushed myself up from the bed. This time, I didn't feel anxious. Instead, a strange calm settled over me.

I turned to look at the doctor in the ambulance, who was checking on my condition. "What time is it, doctor?" I asked. "It's 3:05 pm." "No. I mean, what's today's date?" The doctor shot a strange look at me before answering, "It's October 26, 2046." 2046? I remembered that it had been 2026 when I started the first cycle. Had two decades already passed since then? What was going on?

"Explain it to me, Kael. Properly, for once, instead of speaking in half sentences and letting me piece together the horror on my own." Kael guided her gently away from the common room, back up the narrow stairs to the privacy of their shared quarters, before he spoke again. "The loop does not always repeat the entire world," he said carefully. "Sometimes it corrects itself in smaller ways. A single day repeats. A single death undoes itself and happens again, exactly the same, or sometimes slightly different, depending on what has changed." "But why would I remember it, when no one else does? Why would that woman not remember her own death?"

When I heard Madison's words, I suddenly remembered that she had said the same thing the last time I had surgery. She always talked about marriage, but the timeline kept getting pushed back. First, it was when the company got on track, then when it grew bigger, then when we had saved up enough money for a house, then after my surgery. She didn't want to lose me, yet she couldn't bring herself to commit to marrying me. This time, I gave a different answer. "I'm not going to marry you." I lay in the hospital bed and watched her sit quietly beside me. Memories from the past came rushing back one after another, but what we were now felt completely different from how we had once loved each other.

"To ensure this moment happens exactly like this." "That's a temporal paradox," Marina said. "If future-you is ensuring this moment—" "Then this moment creates future-me who ensures this moment." Sarah laughed, but it had an edge of hysteria. "I'm my own cause and effect. A living temporal loop." Through the chain, I saw it—the thread of Sarah's existence bending back on itself, creating a stable time loop. Future-Sarah, fully evolved, reaching back to guide present-Sarah toward that evolution. "How long has she been guiding you?" I asked.

"They didn’t fucking conjure this package into existence." "Wait," Vincent says sharply. He leans in, his nose inches from the screen. "That’s not right." "What?" I ask. "The timestamp," Vincent says, his fingers dancing over the keys again. "Look at the milliseconds. The refresh rate usually fluctuates by point-zero-three seconds due to bandwidth load. Here? It’s static." He types a command I don't recognize. The screen flashes black, then reloads with a grid of data overlaying the video. "Son of a bitch," Vincent breathes. "It’s a loop."

“If anything, I need you both to know that all of that is pointless… because the moment Cassian is set free, everything will reset once again—” My frown deepened on my face as his words grew eerily colder. “—they will all be separated and imprisoned again… you know why?— because I still have full control of my mind and the convergence… nothing can stop it.” My eyes narrowed in defiance but within me, I felt the threat heavily. What he said meant that we were working with a time loop. We could be bound to fail… But, thanks to that witch, Kalista, we had something Varek wasn’t aware of.

There had been so many, which would be the right one? I thought about going back to when I was taken from camp as a child, back to a time when my mother was still alive. My chin quivered. No. What about my mother’s time loop at the Moonhaven temple? Would rewriting time back before her loop do something that couldn’t be unwritten for her? I couldn’t risk it.

Lucas said with regret in his voice. Xavier ran his fingers gently along the edge of my portrait. His lips moved soundlessly, and I leaned closer and heard him whisper, "I'm sorry." But what good was his apology now? I no longer cared about the Lowes. "I'm sorry, Willow. We owe you so many apologies, but we know they mean nothing now. In your next life, I hope you find a family that treats you with the love and warmth you deserve." My vision blurred, and I realized ghosts could cry, too. I gently wiped the tears away from my eyes and felt at peace before my soul faded away.

Before we can process the implications, the scene shifts. We're still in the lab, but years have passed. Our father stands alone now, his face haggard and haunted. He's poring over charts and readings, muttering to himself. "It wasn't supposed to be like this," he says, his voice breaking. "The girls – they're too powerful. The timeline is fracturing around them. I have to fix this, have to find a way to contain their abilities..."
