The sound of the gunshot exploded in my ears, a deafening blast that left me reeling. My vision blurred. Time seemed to slow as I struggled to process what was happening. For a few disorienting seconds, I was lost in a haze of confusion and fear. My ears kept ringing, and my head spun. I couldn't hear anything except the piercing whine of tinnitus. "Are you okay?" Sorin's voice was a distant echo, muffled and unclear. I felt his arms wrapped tightly around me, his warm breath on my face, but his words were hazy and muffled, fading in and out like an inconsistent radio signal.

Havermouth, Present Time Talen had trussed Chris Errans up like a pig ready for the rotisserie, and Aislen enjoyed, very much, watching the man grunting, dragging air in through his broken and swollen nose as he was gagged, and squirming as if seeking relief from his predicament. “Be careful of the broken glass.” Talen scooped her underwear up off the floor, shaking them free of glass shards, and his eyes hardened as he passed them to her, his hand stroking under her skirt. “Did he…?” He growled.

He didn't check for a pulse; he pressed his forehead against hers, searching for the "Hearth." For a long, agonizing minute, there was nothing but the sound of the falling rain and the distant hum of Lucien’s retreating craft. Then, a heartbeat. Slow. Fragile. But Organic. Panni’s eyes opened. They weren't gold. They weren't obsidian. They were the warm, earthy brown of a woman who had come home. "Did we... Did we delete it?" she whispered. "It's gone, Panni," Jinyan said, tears streaming down his face. "The Mirror is broken."

Looks like they didn't realize there was a gap. Homer took off the earphones in Jefferson's ears and turned the volume down to zero, afraid that the sound from the earphones would reveal their hiding place. Homer tucks the earphones into his pocket. Jefferson leaned his heavy head against Homer's shoulder and struggled to open his eyes. "Find that guy. he's injured. He can't run that fast. Check every room on the aisle. Come, move faster, you moron!" Homer raised his hand. It was wet like he had just touched something sticky. Homer gasps. Could this be Jefferson's blood?

With that, he was out of the loop of his brain and just started rummaging the entire room, breaking everything in his path like drought. When finally, he saw Caine stood still trying to open his mouth. Alana knew what that was about, so he took a panful precaution: he took the pencil in the ground and jammed it inside his left ear, then the right. It bled as he screamed towards Caine flat the glass wall-slash-window at his office. Crash!

“Damn it.” I crossed my arms over my chest, trying to hide the tremor in my hands. “You can’t just expect me to keep following you blindly. Someone broke into my room. Someone left me a note. And now men are talking about making me… disappear.” My voice cracked on the word. His head snapped toward me, his eyes blazing. “What note?” I faltered. He closed the space between us in a single stride, his hand gripping the wall beside me again. “What. Note.”

It was like he couldn’t hear me. Or like he didn’t know I was there. Tarin’s movements grew weaker. His eyes found mine. Across the clearing. Wide and Terrified. Confused. Like he couldn’t understand why this was happening. My feet wouldn’t move. My voice wouldn’t work. My chest felt locked solid with horror. A sharp crack split the air. The sound of bone cracking. Tarin went still. Damien released him slowly. Tarin collapsed to the ground, unmoving. Dead.

I whispered, forcing a small smile as his tiny body curled against mine. But the ache in my chest remained. ******** The next morning, a dull throbbing in my ear pulled me from restless sleep. I groaned, rolling onto my side and reaching up to touch the sensitive skin. A sharp sting shot through me, and I hissed in pain. Damien. That damn earring. I stumbled out of bed and shuffled to the mirror. The skin around my ear was swollen. Great. As if last night hadn’t been humiliating enough, now I had to deal with an infection.

Antonio cried, his small voice trembling. The blond boy turned on him next, grabbing at the ear aid. "Give me that!" Antonio shrieked, trying to pull away, but he was too small. In one rough tug, the boy yanked the ear aid out of Antonio’s ear. It dangled in his hand for a second — then he crushed it under his heel. CRACK. The delicate device shattered into pieces on the pavement. Antonio stared at the ruins, his mouth opening in a silent scream.

That's when one of the ears broke off. Jacob's voice trembled, and his eyes glistened with unshed tears. "She didn't like this figurine at all. She seemed almost offended by it, and cried. I thought if she felt that strongly about it, it must have left an impression." Violet looked at the shabby rabbit figurine, its faded paint and broken ear making it quite the eyesore. "If someone gave me something like this, I'd cry too. It's something I'd never forget in my life."
