A sudden, violent rattling at my shoulder snapped me out of the memory, and my earbuds were unceremoniously yanked from my ears. "We’ve finally arrived!" Tina’s incredibly high-pitched, enthusiastic voice cut through the quiet cabin of the car, causing me to physically flinch away from the noise. I could feel the residual moisture lingering in the corners of my eyes, but before any evidence of my heavy thoughts could spill down my cheeks, I aggressively wiped them away with the back of my hand and forced out a rough, ragged exhale.

“Ting.” The sound was no longer behind my ear. It echoed inside my skull, vibrating in my very teeth. The Archivist appeared, but he looked... small. He was standing on a pile of rubble, his grey rags singed, his face twisted in a look of genuine, baffled fury.

** Harmony snapped out of whatever spell had bound her and she looked behind her to see her friend coming out, holding Tracy’s dressing bag. “What is going on girl? Oh my God! Are you hurt? Let me get first Aid.” Vivian shouted, running back into the house. “What are you talking about...?” Harmony said but then stopped as she realized that she was holding pieces of broken glasses in her hand. She had broken the cup earlier without even feeling anything and her palm was bloody but then she hadn’t felt anything until now. She looked back towards the man but he was gone, in his place was the document that was on the floor.

I did not want that. But I could not back down now. My eyes scanned the place for a doorbell, until I found one. I pressed it, but it made no noise. I concluded that it was broken and decided to knock instead. I hit my knuckles lightly on the door, and after waiting for a few minutes there was no response. I peered through the window, but it was too dark to see anything. I knocked again, but then, I began to hear something. I could hear muffled sobs coming from inside. Was it her? What was going on in there? I was flared up as her muffled sobs got louder.

He yawned softly. “I’m sleepy.” Lucian pulled us both into his chest. For the first time in a long time the air felt calm. Quiet. Peaceful. But behind us. The cracked crystal gave one last pulse. Boom. A small piece broke off. And somewhere far away. A new howl answered. ~THE END~
