Tara glanced at me, her grin turning mischievous. “Duty calls, Nita,” she said, setting her wine glass on the table with a soft clink. “Save some gossip for later?” I nodded, managing a smile as she took his hand, her dress swirling like a midnight wave as they glided to the dance floor. The band played a slow jazz number, saxophones weaving through the air, and couples swayed under the chandeliers, Tara’s laugh floating back as she spun.
