I picked one up, pictured Mikey’s face, and tossed it in, watching as it landed atop the others.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I’ll take care of them. I promise.” I looked up at the gravestones nearby, wondering what Mikey’s would be like when it arrived in a week or two. Penelope had wanted his picture on it, the same one we’d used on the program. I pulled the rippled paper out of my pocket and looked at it for the first time, reading his name, seeing his blue eyes sparking up at me, so full of life.
