Then suddenly— The necklace started beeping. Not softly either. Loud enough to make both of us freeze immediately. Aiden removed it from my neck so fast you’d think it was a bomb. “Are you hurt?” he asked instantly. “No.” “Then why is it reacting?” “I don’t know.” The necklace glowed faintly afterward. Soft blue light beneath the metal. Almost invisible unless you looked carefully. And then— A voice. Clear. Calm. Controlled. “Greetings, Grand Protector. I think it’s time we met.”

The stainless-steel design was wrapped up on an equally stainless-steel braided chain that firmly held it in place. Yet, beyond that, it wasn’t the only one. I also found two more around the neck. Yet, when I pulled this one in my hand, why didn’t I feel the others. “Kaitlyn…” a voice spoke to me, but when I looked around, it was only me and the dead body. “Remember who you are….
