His eyes were bloodshot, and when he saw me, his mouth opened slightly, but no words came out. I looked at him calmly. "Connor, do you have anything to say? To your dad? To my mom?" He flinched. "I was wrong–" But nothing more followed. I stepped closer. "Can I take a look at it? The thing that made you so full of hate and convinced you of something that never even happened?"

He couldn't let the reputation he'd built over a lifetime crumble like this. Kate was Kate, and he was himself. They weren't the same people. "Hating someone takes up too much energy," I said as I poured him a drink. "I have you, my career, and my freedom. I don't have time to hate someone unimportant." Connor nodded as if he understood what I said. We enjoyed hot food inside while the city lights sparkled brightly in the night outside. The city stayed as glamorous yet as cold as ever as life continued each and every day.

Connor said as he turned me around and kissed me hard with hunger. "Maybe tonight, Aaron has Mark, so," I said as I looked up into Connors sky blue eyes. "I don't like the fact of Aaron having Mark; we need to do something about that and quickly. I wish Aaron were one of those deadbeat fathers who never showed their faces around their children. That would make things so much easier," Connor said as he bent down and kissed my forehead. "After everything that has happened, I somewhat wish that as well, but Aaron is his father. Aaron adores Mark, so I don't see him hurting Mark in any way," I spouted the half-truth that I'm no longer confident in believing.
