Xander and Carolina wound their way through under-alley and old industrial cuts, shortcuts mapped in muscle memory, until the buildings crowded so close he had to duck his head to fit.
They reached the drop slot behind the old theater—Chiron’s, that’s what the sign said, bolted crooked above the warped door. He slipped the envelope into the tin slot and waited. Carolina watched the alleys, arms crossed, boot tapping. A black drone buzzed above, then dropped low. Its camera iris flared, clicking twice as it scanned them.
Carolina stuck her tongue out at it. Xander grinned, tension draining a little.
