I forced my eyes open, burning red with heat, and saw Zephyr and the other two walking in. It looked like they had just washed. None of them were wearing shirts. Water droplets slid down their chests and abs, tracing along the lines of muscle before disappearing beneath their waistlines. Looking at the devastatingly handsome faces, I bit down hard on my lip, cursing under my breath. These three had to be doing this on purpose. I was just about to tell them to get out when Cael, who had now advanced to Beta, stepped into the water first. With one long stride, he reached out and pulled my trembling body into his arms.

"Indeed, my Lady. Plans for a brighter future." "And you remember what would be yours," I pressed, stepping closer, letting my words weave around him like silk. "If I wore the crown. Peering curiously into her portable fashion bag, she reached a hand inside and instantly felt a round object within. She retrieves it and finds out it's a diamond bracelet with her initials on it. 'LRC'. She would have discarded the thought that it had anything to do with her if she hadn't seen her full name engraved in tiny silver letters at the inside of it; Loki Rhiannon Colleen. Rhiannon was her middle name and Colleen was her mother's surname which she had answered all her life before she got married to Glen Robertson and had to answer his name on papers.

Her crown fell to the marble floor with a clear clang, there seems also to be a clanging sound of someone's sword falling to the ground outside the palace gates. The deep red gem on the crown shattered and scattered. Warm blood down the steps on the cold ground, slowly spreading, reminiscent of the shallow creek she used to play in barefoot as a child. This golden hall of Avalon became her grave, swallowing her bones, burying her life. Outside, the sun shone on the snow, melting it bit by bit…

She looked down and saw that her tattoo, a symbol of her pack, was glowing with a soft, ethereal light. She looked up at Xerxes in surprise, and saw that his own tattoo was glowing as well. “What’s happening?” Esmeray asked, her voice filled with awe and confusion. Xerxes placed a hand on her shoulder, his touch comforting. “It’s our bond,” he explained. “Our tattoos are connected, a symbol of our unity as mates. It means that we are destined to be together, to share our lives and our destinies.”

By the time they released me in the foyer, tears were burning my eyes. The front doors opened before I reached them. Dante, Luca, and Bianca had returned. Bianca held up a diamond hair clip that glittered beneath the chandelier. “I still can’t believe something this small cost thirty thousand dollars.” Dante laughed. “If you love it, the price doesn’t matter.” “Besides,” Luca added, “your mother gave you the black card for your college wardrobe. You’re supposed to use it.” Thirty thousand dollars. More than I could earn in months of working at the café.

The way the twins were so determined to make her happy. Jaxon slid a plate of pancakes in front of Brielle. “Eat,” he murmured. “You’re going to need strength.” Brielle gave him a look. “For the craft chaos?” “For parenting twins,” he corrected. Rose suddenly held up the crown with a proud gasp. “It’s done!” Lily clapped. “Mommy crown!” The crown was… something. It was slightly crooked. Completely covered in glitter. A little damp from too much glue. There were stickers attached that said “#1 MOM” and “SUPERHERO” and one sticker that just said “WOW.”

A flicker of unease crossed her eyes, but it was gone almost as fast as it appeared. Jim rushed forward, eager to back her up. "If the Neel heiress isn't named Neel, what, is she supposed to be a Franklin like you? What a joke!" I nodded. "Yes, actually. I'm Mr. Neel's daughter, Riley." The room went quiet for half a second. Then laughter exploded all around me. "Neel Corporation is worth billions. You really think the boss's daughter would have someone else's last name?"

On the day of the opening ceremony, I stood at the entrance of the Computer Science Department at Camford University, gazing up at the dome, tears streaming down my face. Thomas, a friendly second-year grad student from my program, greeted me with a warm, "Hello, what's your major?" "Computer Science," I replied. His eyes sparkled. "Impressive!
